Err Msg "USB Device Not Recognized" when trying to use Axim X5 Cradle
I have an Axim X5 that I am trying to connect to my PC. I can connect the handheld to the laptop through the on-board USB ports using either a USB cable or the USB cradle, and everything works great. However if I try to connect to the USB ports on the port replicator Windows XP gives me the message that "USB Device Not Recognized".
Forget the easy stuff, I have already tried it: reinstalling drivers, deleteing the docked profile to elimnate corruption, hunting through countless support areas looking for patches or fixes...etc. Has anyone else experienced this problem?
To be honest it feels like an XP problem, but since I can get the device to work correctly when connected directly to the laptop but not the port replicator I thought I would try posting here.

I have recently seen the exact same problem. My Axim works fine in the USB ports of the laptop, but it does not work in my replicator. I did not see any replies to your inquiry, but I just wanted to see if you have figured out the problem that you were seeing. Please let me know if you have any suggestions because I desperately want to find out how to use my Axim without disconnecting my computer from the replicator.
Thanks in advance for your help.

There are many posts on the Inspiron Port Replicator Forum - In a nutshell, you are SOL, as Dell will not address these USB issues.
Sorry.

If you listen to "Incognito" you will never get a solution, because he/she is telling you just to give up and die...
But, here is some information that may be useful.
If you are using the D/Port replicator, try a "self powered" USB hub.
There have been reports recently that the D/Port port replicator has been dropping or timing out with USB devices.
I have escalated these reports to Dell Engineering and they are currently looking into the reported problems with the D/Port replicator. Customers that have reported these problems, have also reported that using a USB powered hub solves the problems in most cases. Using a USB powered hub is just a temporary work around. I can assure you that Dell Engineering is looking into the problem, and will probably develop a solution.

DELL-Karell,
Great, I think using a USB Powered Hub is a wonderful solution. What I completely disagree with is that I paid for a port replicator to WORK CORRECTLY. I think if Dell is offering this up as the ONLY solution, then they need to send all of us with issues a USB Powered Hub FREE OF CHARGE. Don't you agree?
