Guide needed on how to replace inverter board on my Inspiron 6400 Laptop

Hello,

Some time ago I released my laptop from Standby whereupon I was faced with a blank screen but the display can be seen in bright sunlight or by using a flashlight.

I purchased an external VGA monitor but have subsequently realised that I cannot boot using a EaseUS Emergency Disk without first being able to get into my BIOS to change the boot sequence and to be able to do this I need a working laptop display.

My plan was to create an image of my system using EaseUS Backup but unless I can fix my laptop's display then if my hard drive crashes I have no means to restore my OS ( Windows XP ).

I don't have the finances to buy a new laptop so choosing the cheapest ( and easiest ) solution where hopefully I find that replacing the inverter fixes the problem.

What I need is a guide in how to take out and replace the inverter with my particular laptop model.

Once I know my inverter's part number then hopefully I will find it online where I think lcdparts.net might be my best chance of achieving my goal.

Can anyone please be of assistance?

Thank you.

You'll need to remove the screen and follow the two heavy wires up from the mainboard -- they'll end in a small board called the inverter.  The service manual details the screen removal (support.dell.com).
