Highest spec still with 4:3 display?

I don't think you'll find any left - nor will you from most of the competition.

If you need 4:3, there are still some LCD monitors - VERY few of them now - in that format.  The handwriting is on the wall for that aspect ratio though.

I was hoping to find a second user laptop on eBay. I know there are not any new ones still about that offer a 4:3 aspect ratio.

So if you know a bit about the history of Dell laptops maybe you just chance to know roughly which was the last one in the 4:3 monitor format.

Someone posted that it was the D530.

For some reason there aren't as many of them on eBay as there are of the D620 for example. Besides eBay, look on Dell's www.dfsdirectsales.com which are return from lease

If you're going for a used model, the Thinkpad T4x series were 4:3 and built more solidly to begin with than any of the competition's models - they make better used buys.

The reason why there are less D530 on eBay than there are D620 might be that the D530 has a 15 inch display whereas the D620 only has a 14 inch display.

D530 may be 15" screen but it is 4:3.

D620 is widescreen.

My guess is that by the time the D530 came out, people were switching over to D620 with its16:9 screen.

It's both good and sad to see others with the same issue.  I'm an attorney who does a lot of document intensive work drafting wills, etc.  I've been using a Dell Inspiron 9300 for 6 years now, but it's about time to upgrade. I use the 17" laptop display and a Dell 200FP second display and it's been working very well.  So I went looking for a new laptop with a 17" 4:3 display (preferably Dell).  After hours online, I finally called Dell support.  I spoke with 10 or so different reps in different departments trying to find out the most recent laptop with the most up-to-date processor with a standard format 17" display.  Amazingly, nobody could tell me anything.  They did give me some models, but they weren't correct (either less than 17 or wide screen).  Does anyone know the answer to the question?  If I can't buy something new, I'll get something on eBay.

I noticed today that desktop monitors are still made with 5:4 and 4:3 display aspect ratios.  They are popular for multiple monitor arrays because they are more efficient for most computing apps.  Well, portable computing also needs efficient display options; Maybe more so, as to maximize display height and area while minimizing size and weight are fundamental objectives for a portable computer.  They should offer the 4:3 option for laptops again.  The 17" widescreen is less efficient than a 15" 4:3 ( display height, area, size, weight).  

The Lenovo ThinkPads were just about the last 4:3 notebooks -- even those have transitioned to wide-screen displays.
