INSPIRON 6000, Windows7 and Driver downloads
I loaded Windows7 on my Inspiron 6000 and cannot get any of the drivers I downloaded for it to run. I can't connect it to the internet, since one of those drivers is for the network card. Infact, when I attempt to install that driver, the machine locks up. I have lost my original install disk, so I am at the mercy of what is on the drivers list for the machine. HELP!

Windows 7 may work on the system but it is not supported by Dell and they may be hardware that simply won't work at all. Here is a link that discusses upgrading to Windows 7 and if your system is compatible.

I checked and the only drivers that are available for the system are Win XP drivers. These are unlikely to install on the system. I am sorry but if Windows 7 is not able to find a driver for the device on the system, it isn't likely going to work.
Since you have lost your disk, you can try the following link and request replacement disks.

After you install Windows 7, did you install the desktop/notebook utility and the chipset drivers first? If not, the rest of the drivers will fail to install. How to Download and Install Drivers in the Correct Order If you cannot find Windows 7 drivers, the try the Vista 32-bit (or XP) drivers for Windows 7 32-bit or the Vista 64-bit (or XP) drivers. Install the drivers in the Compatibility mode
