Inspiron 1525 no sound
My friend just installed my computers drivers and he forgot my sound driver, now I can't find it anywhere and the one from Dell's website won't work. Everytime I try to install the driver it tells me that no downloads were selected and it closes. Can anyone help me please? I have no sound coming from my laptop at all even when I plug in headphones. When I open up my device manager it says that everything is working properly but it's not :(

"Everytime I try to install the driver it tells me that no downloads were selected"
I am not familiar with that error message. Here are the general instructions for installing the Sigmatel audio driver after an operating system installation. The order of installation must be followed or the driver will not install. Try this before re-doing the entire OS installation.
a. Dell Notebook System Software (on the downloads page expand the System Utilities category). Download, install and restart.
b. Next install the Intel Mobile Chipset software (expand the Chipset category). Download, install and restart.
c. Install the drivers including the Sigmatel audio driver (expand the Audio category).
Get these from the 1525 driver downloads page. When you get on the page use the dropdown box to select your Operating System.
Notes:
On the downloads page you will see the terms "optional" and "recommended". These terms are guidelines for when you are updatng a driver. They do not apply to a situation where you are installing drivers after a fresh Windows installation.
If possible use the browser to download in the normal way, not Dell Download Manager which has been reported to create problems. See the Laptop Audio Faqs for more info about this.
Sometimes there will still be a problem with the installation at this point (in XP). In that event check in the Device Manager for a "PCI Device" with a yellow question mark next to it. Hit 'update driver' on it and browse to the driver folder on the hard drive c:\Dell\Drivers\R180044\WDM. (XP only)
Windows XP SP1 should be upgraded to SP2 before installing the audio driver.
SP 2 may require that the UAA hotfix be installed. Get it from http://support.microsoft.com/kb/888111
It is sometimes easier to get the driver to install in SP2 than in SP3.
If you have the original XP reinstallation disc and the drivers utility disc, I would install from those instead of downloading, because those will have the same configuration combination that is known to work on your computer (the same configuration that was on the computer when it was new) then after the audio is working you can go online to update the drivers if necessary.
There are other reasons why a Sigmatel driver can fail to install, both hardware and software reasons, besides the order of driver installation.

Thinking about
"Everytime I try to install the driver it tells me that no downloads were selected"
I could understand that error if you got it when you were downloading a driver package from the Dell site, but you got it when you were literally installing the driver files on the computer? I have never heard of a case where the driver installer wants you to select a download.
