Inspiron 3520 on win 8.1 video HUGE problem - help needed please!

Hi guys,

got here as you're my last resort. Here goes the story about my beloved insp 3520...

The other day I upgraded win 8 to 8.1. And then it started.. perhaps coincidentally but I cannot tell. Software or hardware? What to do?

When does it happen? Randomly. No scheme here. Sometimes I play for hours and it's fine, sometimes it occurs right away the boot.

How long does it last? Randomly. Sometimes a few seconds, sometimes longer.

What helps? At times it goes away itself. Always helps to reboot. Before I used to knock around the keyboard thinking it might be a hardware issue but eventually I figured my actions were stupid and stopped.

Is it the driver from new Win? Is it something easily cureable? Please say it is.. I don't want to part with my Dell :( :(

Will be enormously thankful...

Cheers

Bartek

If it happened as Windows 8 was upgraded to Windows 8.1 then it is likely a driver issue. Installation of Windows 8 Service Pack 1 i.e. Windows 8.1 leads to many issues and I always recommend clean installation:

http://dellwindowsreinstallationguide.com/a-clean-install-of-windows/

The system will perform much better under a complete clean installation.

However since you aren't sure whether your hardware is good or not, run the full F12 preboot diangostics:

http://dellwindowsreinstallationguide.com/f12-preboot-diagnostics/

You may also want to leave the system on the BIOS setup screen overnight (press F2 at startup). If it crashes then it is a hardware issue as the BIOS has nothing to do with Windows 8.1.

Thanks

I have just run bios diagnostics. No issues found. Is there anything I can do but reinstall the os? Aby Chance drivers upgrade wilk fix this? If so which drivers should I install?

Cheers

Install the Windows 8.1 64 Bit (WB64A) drivers from here:

In particular for the video.
