Inspiron E1505 battery not present

A few days ago, my 1505 suddenly stopped recognising my batter - in the power meter it says there is no battery present, and when I hit F2 on startup, it says there is no battery installed. It will run on the battery, and seems to be charging it, but can't ever tell how much charge the battery holds. The battery life seems to have dropped down to a maximum of about 20minutes.
 
Having looked through this forum, I've tried updating the BIOS (it won't, just asks me to put the battery in), taken the battery out and replaced it, hit the button on the battery (all 5 green lights come on).
 
Given that I live in Honduras at the moment, and sending stuff to and from the US is a little tricky - anyone got any ideas?

I am having this same problem with my E1505. The bios says the battery is "not present", even though it powers the PC if I unplug the AC adapter. I have had quite a few AC adapter issues with this PC, and have received a replacement AC adapter. Now I'm worried that something more serious is wrong now that I am out of warranty.

And since the BIOS doesn't recognize the battery, I can't upgrade the BIOS.

Does anybody have any advice?

I'm having the exact same problem with the exact same model. the funny part is, ever since the comp. stopped reading the battery power, I've been getting 1:20 of work on it instead of my 10-15min. before. Something tells me that this was designed so we can buy new batteries even though the old one is fine.

I am having the same problem with my E1505.  The battery life is over an hour and it seems to recharge fine but I never know how much battery life is left.  The red battery light comes on when power is disconnected but the computer still thinks it's on AC power.  The power meter says no battery is present. Any advice would be great.

I bought a new battery from www.pacificbattery.com and it works fine with a higher warranty and cheaper price than the one from dell.....
