Inspiron N5050 touchpad not working properly when connected to AC adapter
Hi,
I have just bought my Inspiron N5050. I connected it to the AC adapter and followed all instruction of first use and then have noticed that the cursor barely move. At the beginning I thought it is probably wrong setting of the touchpad, but it wasn't. I got really fed up to do anything on this laptop and turned this off. After a while I turned it on again without the adapter and it worked properly. I was happy that the problem was solved. But not for long. As soon as I plugged the AC adapter on, the cursor was jumping, moving slowly or not moving at all, scrolling pages etc.
I have read few posts already about this issue and came to the point that I need to update my BIOS or touchpad driver.
Can anyone please instruct me on this which version I should use - I came across these 2 drivers and dont know which one to choose:
The first one looks like it is the most recent, but is it the right one?
Also the touchpad - is this the right one - http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/19/DriverDetails/Product/inspiron-15-intel-n5050?driverId=H6CXN&osCode=W764&fileId=2731102116 ?
What if the fault is in the adapter and not my laptop/touchpad? Shouldnt my laptop be up to date if I bought it only this week?

Hi Zania,
Welcome to the Community,
Since you just bought the system it should have the latest drivers.However you can check the BIOS version on your system and if its shows a older version than the A05 which was released on 9/12/2012 ,than you can update the BIOS from this link below:

To check BIOS version,click on start menu,in the search box type System Information,once you open it check for BIOS version/date.
If the Touchpad is working fine only with the battery it may not be an issue with the Touchpad driver,it could be an issue with the grounding when the AC adapter is connected to the system.Try a different power outlet and if you're using a surge protector,try to by pass it by connecting the AC adapter directly to the main power outlet.
If the issue persists try using the laptop in a different location(may be your friend house).Observe how the Touchpad works in a different location with the AC adapter connected.
Let me know your findings.

Hi Roshan,
Thanks for your advice. I have found out that the version of BIOS i had installed on my laptop was A04 which is the previous version, so I have installed A05 version but it did not change the behavior of the cursor. I have also checked different plugs, connected to the main power in different rooms but it did not change anything - still the same problem.
What should I do in this case?

Hi Zania,
If the issue is comming up only when the AC adapter is connected, to isolate the problem further we may need to get the AC adapter replaced.
Please private message me your system service tag number along with your full name,address and phone number.To private message click on my user name,click start conversation.
In the mean time if you know someone who uses the same system model,try his/her AC adapter on your system.Observe if there is any change in touchpad functionality.
I will check your system details and get back to you.

Hi Roshan,
I am also facing the same problem with my Newly purchase INSPIRON N5050. Updating BIOS not resulted any good result and it persist. Laptop is not in usable condition while changing with AC adopter in-spite of location, direct power line etc.
In booting itself it taking more than a minute, as nothing is started using or installed from my side.
Please help to rectify the same.

Welcome to the Community,
Could you confirm if touchpad works fine when system is running only with battery(without the AC adapter connected)?
Did you update BIOS to version A05?
Regarding the slow start up,just to make sure it is not a hardware problem,please run diagnostics by tapping F12 on start up,Dell Logo,select diagnostics.
Please post back error code/message is any.

Thanks for your response,
The touchpad works well when system is running only with battery. While connected to AC adopter, under charging mode touchpad not function / malfunctioning.
I have updated BIOS verson A05.
I have run the diagnostics but No error report. The major thing is Touchpad is not working properly while connected to AC adopter.
Please resolve this issue. & Guide me could this INSPIRON N5050 has International transfer facility to transfer from US to India.

Hi D. Baskaran,
If possible try a different Dell AC adapter of the same watt.This will help us find out if its an issue with the AC adapter.Also try to use the system with AC adapter connected in a different location and confirm if the issue persists.
