Latitude D510 PCI modem driver and Network Controller driver needed
Hi,
I offered to help a friend by reformatting her daughter's laptop for her which is a Dell Latitude D510. However I realised that I couldn't connect to the internet. I couldn't even see the usual little network icons on the bottom right of the screen even when plugging it into my local network.
I checked device manager and I have and found 5 devices without drivers installed. In this list are the Network controller and the PCI modem. However, I can't seem to find the drivers anywhere. I would appreciate it greatly if someone could tell me where I can find the drivers, lend some advice or at least point me in the right direction if I'm way off the mark here.
Many thanks in advance

You don't need pci modem drivers unless you are still on dialup. A pci modem is a telephone connection, not broadband. The problem you are having is probably missing software and the order of driver installation. Windows XP requires that you install the Notebook System Software first along with the chipset drivers and before any other drivers. Get NSS at Dell Download for the your model under System Utilities. If that is not installed first, the other drivers do not install properly. You should always mention your operating system when posting.

Thank you for providing this explanation. Many people do not know about device drivers and this was very helpful!
