Latitude D530 Memory Upgrade info...
Hi all,
I bought 4gb (2X2gb) PC5300 memory to replace 2gb ram that came with D530.
I opened the back of this laptop and I saw only one RAM slot.
Is there a document explaining detailed steps to find the other slot and install ram?
I'm planning to give 2gb to Vista and 2gb to XP in my virtual pc setup.
Also, do you guys recommend 3gb instead of 4gb?
If there is not much difference, I can just replace the one in the back with 2gb ram.

The easiest is to put 2GB in the socket on the bottom. Is there a 1GB in there now?
The second socket is under the keyboard where it is not real easy to get to.
Since the OS will only be able to use about 3.25GB, the 3GB is plenty. However, the maximum memory depends on the system board chipset. A 965 chipset will be able to use 3.25GB with a 32-bit OS and possibly 4GB with a 64-bit OS. However, if you have the 960 chipset, 2GB is the max. You need to download CPU-Z, a free utility that will tell you what's inside. You can also just try the 2GB for a total of three and see if the BIOS and OS sees the extra RAM.

Yes it has 1gb RAM in the back and another 1GB under the keyboard somewhere.
The manual says D530 has 4gb maximum RAM capacity and came with 2gb (2X1gb) 667mhz.
That means it is GM 965 with maximum of 2gb on each slot. Actually, I almost ordered 4gb ram from Dell but it was too expensive.
You said 3.25GB is the maximum one OS can support.
That's alright, I'm plainning to run some heavy programming stuff on my Virtual PC (XP pro) and split the RAM amonth those two OS.
I think that way, Vista can use 1.5gb and the virtual pc can use 2.5gb.
