Thank you for using Dell's Community Forum.
Are you getting an error message that says your AC adaptor is not recognized?
If so, either your AC adaptor needs to be replaced or your motherboard.

Got tired of my PA12 playing tunes when battery was fully charged, so I emailed Dell and they shipped a replacement, with shipping return label. Unfortunately, the new one was quiet but not recognized, and did not charge battery. Battery had depleted below safe BIOS flash level, and the old PS was already returned.
Just called Dell to send another one, and it works fine, it is a REV 01.
This was all just a couple of weeks ago.
You don't need to do anything special with a different PS, as far as I know. On one occasion I borrowed an AC PS from another guy with a D600 to charge up before a presentation and it worked fine for my D600.
