Screen flicker with Dell Inspiron 15 7000
Hello,
I bought a new Dell Inspiron 15 7000 core i7 with touch display about a week ago. I've noticed that on occasion, especially when running on battery power, the screen flickers slightly.
I've tried to ignore this issue, however it is starting to irritate me and I've looked all over the internet for a solution.
If anyone has experienced this issue or knows how to fix it, please help!
Thanks!

"There are many ways to fix the brightness auto adjusting. One would be update your video drivers, then right click on the battery icon on the bottom right corner.Click on 'desktop mode battery charge' then 'battery status'and uncheck 'enable dell intelligent display'.
Next you can go into 'power options' change dell to 'balanced(recommended). Click change plan settings, change advanced power settings, scroll down to 'display' and click it open. From there click on 'enable adaptive brightness' and set both too off.Restart the laptop if needed. That has been the only way i have figured out how to fix the problem on my dell inspiron 15 7000 laptop."
Quoted from sarah023 in another post.
This completely solved my issue.

I just bought a 7000 and have noticed the same thing.
I think it's a power-saving feature (Dell Extended Battery Life - Dell Intelligent Display). It looks like it monitors background light levels and adjusts the brightness to suit the conditions - but it constantly adjusts the brightness leading to flickering.
I've disabled the "Intelligent" display and it no longer flickers.
To disable it, go to Control Panel > Power options and look for the Dell Extended Battery Life option on the left hand side. Then un-tick the Dell Intelligent Display option and OK.
This seems to have resolved the problem for me.

Hi I.hamilton1030,
I would suggest you to run the LCD Diagnostics on your laptop.
To run the Built-In Self-Test perform the following:
Turn the computer off.
Press and hold the D key while pressing the power button. This will start the BIST.
The screen will display multiple flashing colors. Look for lines, distortion, flickering or any other video issues you have observed.
The laptop will restart when the test is finished.
Also, connect an external monitor to your laptop and check if the external display also flickers.
Let me know the results after performing the above mentioned troubleshooting steps, I would be happy to help you further.

I ran the LCD Diagnostic test on my laptop and found no lines, distortions or flickers.
Is there anything else you could suggest? It seems to be that when the screen flickers, it's with the brightness. I have my laptop set on the Dell power saving option (I have tried other power saving options and the same issue occurs)

Hi I.hamilton1030,
Check if the screen flickers in safe mode and also check if the screen flickers on the BIOS page.
Steps to enter BIOS.
-Turn off the computer.
-Turn it back on again, start tapping key at the Dell Logo splash screen.
-If the computer boots to windows, turn the computer off and try the steps again.
If the screen doesn’t flicker in BIOS page and safe mode then ,update the video drivers for your computer from the Dell support website.
Steps: -
Click on the link http://dell.to/1zmDhQn
-Enter the service tag of your computer.
-Select the Operating system of your computer under Operating system section.
-Select the video card drivers from the video section and install it on your computer.
Let me know the results, after updating the video drivers and I will assist you further.

Any luck? I've got the same model laptop with exactly the same issues. It seemed minor at first but it's too frequent to ignore.

Hello Pandora422
Unfortunately I haven't had any luck with resolving this issue. It seems the screen will only flicker slightly when running from the battery (I thought it was only a minor issue at first, but now it's extremely irritating)
I tried everything that was suggested to me from Dell and it didn't resolve the issue.
If you have any joy please let me know.
Thanks :)

Do we have an actual solution on this yet? I order and received the Dell Inspiron 15 7000 series touch laptop as well, and it has been flickering slightly right from day 1. It is so frustrating to use a laptop like that, that too after spending 900+ dollars on this machine.

I've found that if you drop your resolution to 1680x1050 the flickering goes away indefinitely. At least as long as it remains on this setting. Easiest way to get to the screen resolution is to right click on the desktop>screen resolution from here click on the resolution drop down box and change it.
It's too bad that the resolution has to take a hit, but it definitely is better than that flickering...I've been able to go back up to the regular resolution of 1920x1080 after it's been plugged in, but while on battery the 1680x1050 is the best option.

I too have been having this problem, but on a slighly lesser machine, a 5447. Begins to flicker a lot after it's been on battery for a while, and it seems especially when it's not on a table (which almost suggests a loose connector), and happens every so often when plugged in. Have tried disabling adaptive brightness, changing power profile, etc; will now try reducing the resolution. Would love to have a solution that doesn't involve sending the machine for warranty service...

I have this EXACT thing! There's like marks around the edge of the screen, everything goes white-tinted, and the backlight flickers like mad. It only started a few days ago, and there seems to be no way for me to intentionally trigger it. Also, it even happens before Windows has loaded, so it doesn't seem to be a driver issue.
If I leave it for long enough it fixes itself over time, even without moving the laptop which makes me wonder if it is a loose connection. I have a feeling it may be a power issue, maybe bad earthing or something?
My main concern is that the issue is so temporemental that I could send it back, them not see the problem, and return it unfixed. I'm in my final year of uni so I have enough going on already without having to deal with a bad repairs service.
Have you worked out a way to trigger it so I can get a video and show tech support?
