Ubuntu 12.04.4 Fresh Install on Dell Vostro 2520

Hi,

I recently purchased a Dell Vostro 2520 with Ubuntu Pre-installed, everything worked fine until I crashed it with some XFCE installs. Now I want to do a fresh installation, but the installation fails with the 'jocket-gtk'  app crashing every time. I am using a downloaded version of Ubuntu 12.04.4 LTS/amd64 from a USB drive.

* Is there any alternative way to perform the installation?

* Also, is here a down for the Dell version of Ubuntu 12.04?
