Which Dell Laptops have top quality touchpads?
I'm looking for a Dell laptop (have had two in the past). It must be 17" with a backlit keyboard, good quality screen for photo-editing.and (importantly) a well designed keyboard as I do a lot of word processing.
Touch pads are a big concern. I don't use a mouse - so the touch pad has to be first class, i.e. smooth and without that annoying random jerkiness that bedevils some laptops (including one of my previous Dells). The trouble is that you can't find out if its rubbish until after you've bought it.
Any recommendations for which Dell laptop would suit my needs? (Oh, and a minimum of bloatware please!)

The two Dell systems that fit all those requirements are the Alienware 17 and the Precision 7710.

You're looking for high-end features and build - which you're not going to find on any of the Inspirons.
The Inspiron line is built to a price -- just like a low-end economy car.

I paid a visit to PC World (a main store in the UK) today. They stock a huge range of laptops and desk machines. Over the years, I have had good products from them.
Looking today at their mid-range laptops, I was surprised at how many had washed-out screen colours and poor-quality touchpads.My poor old mid-range 17" Dell Studio bought over 6 years ago had far better colour quality and a more usable touch pad.
Today's disappointing laptops included: Toshiba L70, Acer E5-773 and HP Envy. Screen colours were horribly washed out and the touchpads were pretty well unusable.
What happened with laptops? Quality seems to have gone into reverse.
