Windows 8 says my laptop is touchscreen

Windows 8 pro is designed for regular and touchscreen compatible computers; hence it displays the options to select accordingly.

When I select my notebooks monitor, it says 'pen and limited touch support'

Why would it detect my screen as touch screen when it clearly isn't?

Due to the availability of the touchpad in the laptop the windows is detecting the touchpad as the “pen and limited touch support”, as touch is not an option on the external monitor, windows is detecting the monitor as 'not a pen or touch input device'

For an external monitor to behave as a touchscreen monitor the screen resolution must be at least 1366 x 768 to snap applications.

To check this setting: Open Screen Resolution by swiping in from the right edge of the monitor screen, tapping Search (or if you're using a mouse, pointing to the upper-right corner of the screen, moving the mouse pointer down, and then clicking Search), entering Display in the search box, tapping or clicking Settings, and then tapping or clicking Display.
