XPS M140 laptop Screen black after windex was sprayed.

Sounds like the liquid got underneath the screen bezel and perhaps damaged the circuitry. Letting it sit for a day or two to dry out may help. But if not it sounds like the screen needs replacing. If under warranty contact Dell but do not mention Windex was used! ;)  If warranty is expired then a screen or wiring replacement can be an expensive repair.

 

In the future, water or specific LCD screen cleaner sprayed onto a cloth (not directly to the screen) which is then applied to the screen is the best method for cleaning.

 

Thanks, I will wait a couple of day's.  I am going to hook it up to an external monitor and make sure that, that is the only thing that happened.

 

We normally only use montster screen cleaner with a specific cloth, but he is at that age (6) where he wants to clean stuff with the spray cleaner.

 

I do believe that he has learned his lesson.

 

 

It does sound like it soaked into the panel.It isnt a gloss sceen is it?That gives the panel a bit more protection.Im bettin a call to dell is what will fix it.Dont feel bad we all make mistakes and we all learn from them.

Trouble is Steve, damage like that isn't covered under a standard warranty.

It would require the buyer to have taken out 'Complete Care' cover ;)
