left mouse click problmes - pushed in permanently

Question

well i have a xps m140 i just got it alittle over a year ago so its not that old. what the problem is that the touch pad, left clicker seems to be pushed in so its not level with the right and it doesnt click like the right does.

This has not good spring actions ( when u push for click and it come back right away )

Update: Do I have to replace whole palm rest assembley or just spring action of the left mouse on the laptop

Man, I have an XPS M140 that I got just under 1 year ago, but the warranty is expired.  I'm having the exact same problem as of today.   Please let me know if you have any success in fixing this problem.

Ok, well I've read that document you link to.  And I see you question if we need to replace the entire palm rest or just the spring loaded button.  My question is where do I get the replacement parts?

You'll need to call dell spare parts to order it, I believe the design is most likely proprietary so you might not be able to get it from a 3rd party.

Exactly, the palmrest is a part including the touchpad and the both mouse buttons. The hardware is proprietary, like Noxo mentioned, so call spare parts or try to find someone ho could sell you this.

Well if you are warranty, just call in tech support and ask them to send you a palmrest. They will send you a palmrest, and a tech to help replace it.

I got my XPS M140 in the May of 2006.  I had the exact same problem (left mouse button sticking) after a little more than 1 year.  I tried contacting Dell at least 4 times, and each time, I asked them for a service center.  The dumas kept refering me to a sales kiosk each time.  And they did not even know what to do.  When will they get support people that actually have a brain?  Anyhow, it looks like I am stuck trying to order a palmrest (probably from e-bay) and fixing it myself.  So much for that 'award-winning' customer service.  What award did they win, dumbest?

an update on this issue.  I got a new palmrest off e-bay ($15 including shipping) from username tex-jet.  I then had the palmrest installed by a local repair shop ($65).  The left mouse button now works fine.  I then dissected the old palmrest and found what happened.  Underneath the mouse button is a small plastic bubble.  That bubble broke and got pressed in, thus preventing the 'pop-up' that we are so accustomed too.  Anyhow, my problem now is that the volume control buttons to do not work.  I'm looking at the drivers, but I'm not sure which is correct.  If anyone knows of this problem, please let me know.
