Cannot connect to wi-fi
I have a Dell Latitude E6540 laptop with a Intel core i5 CPU, 8GB ram and 1TB disk. It has an Intel Centrino Advanced-N-6235 network adapter. Every time I turn on this laptop I have no wi-fi connection. I have to go through the whole process of opening and Internet Settings and going to known networks to try and connect to the internet. I type in my key for the router and hit connect and nothing. "Cannot connect to this network" I click on troubleshooting and go through the whole process to get a message that I don't have a valid ip address or a network cable is unplugged. Now I am sitting in my living room and I am literally 15 feet from the router and modem. Most of the time unplugging the router and resetting it usually works and I could get on the internet. I have checked for updated for the router, the modem and my network card and there are no updates. I have checked with Intel for any updates and there are none. I also have 4 other computers, 2 laptops and 2 desktops that have no problems at all connecting to the internet, so I figure it is not the router or the modem. It is this laptop. Can anyone help with this problem?

It had to be the Microsoft instructions because I did not refresh windows. Between the Microsoft instructions and all the other suggestions it seems to be working now. I did not lose the wifi connection in a couple of days. Thank you for the help.

@Dennistomlin this could be either hardware or software related.
Has the wireless ever worked on the laptop?
What version of the OS are you running, 7, 8.1 or 10?
If you connect up a LAN cable to the laptop does the network work?
Can you see networks but not connect or can you not see any networks at all?
Do you have a red X in the system tray over the wireless icon?
I would recommend following through the instructions for resetting the network connection using the ipconfig commands as per this 3rd party website - https://appuals.com/ethernet-doesnt-have-a-valid-ip-configuration/

Wireless has always worked after troubleshooting wifi connection.
Am running Windows 10 pro.
Never tried an LAN cable.
Can see all networks including neighbors networks.
When I log on I have the globe icon with the slash through it in the taskbar tray.
I used Network reset in settings-network and internet.
I have already uninstalled the network card and then restarted the computer.

@Dennistomlin I would suggest working through the steps outlined here by Microsoft for troubleshooting a no internet connection scenario - https://support.microsoft.com/en-ie/help/4000459/windows-10-wifi-icons
If that fails to resolve the issue I would carry out a Windows 10 refresh. It fixes most issues with Windows but retains all your data - https://www.dell.com/support/article/us/en/04/sln297920/reset-or-reinstall-windows-10-on-your-dell-computer?lang=en#Refresh

@Dennistomlin that's great to hear.
Can you advise exactly which part resolved the issue for you - Microsoft's instructions for resetting the network of the Dell instructions for refreshing Windows?
