Dell D630 does not charge
Hello,
I have a Dell D630 laptop and a problem:
Battery does not charge when AC adapter is plugged in. It says "On AC power", battery percentage does not go up or down. When I unplug adapter, laptop is normaly running on battery power and when I unplug the battery, laptop works OK with power adapter. I checked BIOS, it said that battery is working properly, but the AC adapter is an unknown device.
The adapter was new and worked for a year now, battery was replaced just a week ago and was charging.
So is the new battery faulty or is there a coincidence and power adapter failed?
P.s. If I plug in power adapter when PC is not running, the little power light (on laptopt) does not turn on.
Thanks,
Kardanas

The battery won't charge if the AC adapter shows unknown.
Try another Dell adapter -- if that doesn't solve the problem, the fault is with the DC jack or the mainboard.
On this model, the DC jack is not a separate part - it's soldered to the mainboard. This model being essentially ancient, the best course of action is likely to replace the system - you can easily find a working used system for well under $50. For that matter, and for not much more money, you can also upgrade to a newer system.
