Dell latitude e5410 Memory upgrade
Hello all,
im planing to several upgrades notebook Dell latitude e5410 of my mother.
List of upgrades :
- Upgrade bios from A5 to latest - done (2 steps, 1st a10 second a16)
- CPU i5 560m - to do (i ordered one)
- Ram sticks upgrade from 2x2 GB 1333mhz https://www.electrobyt.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=6372#.XvEMSJ3QhhE
to 2x4 GB 1600mhz https://www.electrobyt.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=6459#.XvEM8p3QhhE
I want to ask if those sticks are compatible with that notebook ?
Latest bios a16, win7 pro.

The RAM should be fine.
Practice good ESD avoidance by wearing a wrist strap before handling RAM.

Hi,
I have been doing exactly the same, except my e5410 already has an i5 560m, and except the RAM sticks are not Samsung but Crucial, but exact same specs, and for the life of me I couldn't get them to work
But I just discovered here

that there is a spec that is almost always unmentioned which most probably is key for our model and is a difference between your Samsung and my Crucial: the Intel Core iX 1st generation such as the i5 560m seem to support RAM in 256 MB chips but not 512 MB chips (and this fact is not even mentioned in the Intel processor datasheet!), so any DIMM with 512 MB chips most probably won't work (I also tried a Corsair with same spec and it didn't work either)
So now I ordered two Samsung sticks exactly like yours, apart from being PC3-10600 (as the additional speed wouldn't be used anyway due to limitations in our machine), and hopefully I'll put this week of cursing and testing and rebooting behind me - I'll confirm here in a few days for the benefit of future readers to save them the above PITA

Confirmed, the issue was exactly the size of the RAM chips: if you have a 1st generation Intel Core iX processor, make sure you get RAM with 256 MB chips (often referred to as 2R - two-rank, because it needs twice as many chips since they're half the size), or it won't work
