Latitude 7490 touchpad problems

Hi.

I was trying to find similar posts, but couldn't find any similar issues.

Problem is that when user logs in to Windows the touchpad stops responding. It works when copmuter has screen locked. Current solution was to remove the installed Dell Touchpad application from Programs and Features and it works untill Windows Update checks updates and installes this application automatically back. I have tried to disable additional applications to be updated via WU and System Properties->Hardware->Device Installation Settings--> Do you want to automatically download... set to NO. Dell Touchpad application will be still automatically installed during WU check.

7490 runs on Windows 10 with latest updates and with latest Dell Command Update updates (except touchpad).

Current solution to avoid this application to be installed again was to change computer's group policy "to Computer Configuration –> Administrative Templates –> System –> Device Installation –> Device Installation Restrictions->Prevent installation of devices not described by other policy settings"= Enabled.

In my opinion this is not the correct way it has to be solved.

Any thoughts from this community?

Thank you.

Marko

Not sure if this is a similar problem to yours but go to the following page and scroll down to the solution post. I am not sure if your model has a hotkey to enable/disable the touchpad. Another thought, in Device Manager for the touchpad under Power Management. Is the box checked to allow computer to shut off device to save power?

Had the same problem with 7390. Seems that some newer W10 drivers disable the Dell touchpad while "windows precision touchpad" works neither. Issue is resolved pretty easily (when you have a mouse at hand temporarily) but the procedure has to be repeated for every user (if you have many in your os, e.g. normal one and adminstrative one etc). The whole idea is to (re)enabe DELL touchpad. Settings (Win+I) | Devices | Touchpad | Additional settings | Click to change Dell Touchpad settings". The Dell touchpad utility is launched [alternatively, you may find it running in the tray, then just double-click it to open). Now there in the Dell Touchpad application you'll probably see "Windows Precision touchpad" turned on (but not working, actually). There should be an option somewhere in the screen to reach "Dell classic touchpad" (I will not provide better instructions as I would have turned my own touchpad off if I tried -- writing this on 7390), smth like "allow classic touchpad" or smth like this (was it a checkbox?). Go there (check it?) and a "Dell Touchpad" tab will appear, where you can switch Dell Touchpad on... and then it works ;-)
