The answer above is correct, but I'm pretty sure this is a limitation of the Intel display driver, not the system hardware or the WD15. "Spanned mode" can often be a frustrating experience even when it's available though, since dialog boxes intended to appear at the center of the display appear split across your two physical displays, snapping a window to fill half the display now fills one entire physical display, etc.
