Optical Drive no longer recognised in BIOS
The Optical Drive in my E6430 is no longer visible in BIOS (version A21 dated 05/08/2017).
It was previously and had been assigned as D:
I've partitioned my SSD thus allocating C: and E:
I recently attached an external Hard Drive using USB, and this was assigned D:
Although I “safely removed hardware” the optical drive is no longer recognised after disconnecting the external HDD
I have powered on & off with and without the Optical Drive, and also reinserted the Optical Drive with power on – but not fixed the problem.
I'd be grateful for advice on how to resolve this.

Thanks for you help.
I tried a few more things and have eventually concluded that the most likely cause is the Optical Drive itself.
That's going to be cheaper and easier to replace than a problem with the Motherboard / Connector - so I'll order another drive and keep my fingers crossed that will fix the issue.

Hi OzWoz,
If it's not being detected in BIOS it's most likely that there is a problem with the drive or the connector on the motherboard. If you press the button to open the drive does it eject? When you power the system on does the activity LED on the drive illuminate at any point?

Thanks for considering my plight and responding Alasdair
There is no activity on the Optical Drive :-(
but as I never took it out prior to the problem occurring I'm unsure the issue relates to Board or Connector.
Because I connected an external HDD using USB, and this was detected and assigned D: which was previously the Optical Drive, isn't the problem more likely to be a setting that hasn't correctly reverted ?

If there's no power at all to the drive, it's unlikely to be a setting, but on the off chance, you could try resetting the BIOS to defaults and see if that helps. Make sure to make a note of your current settings beforehand though.
