No sound in Dell XPS13 with Ubuntu 14.04

I have a brand new Dell XPS13 Developer Edition, that came with Ubuntu 14.04, and sound stopped working from one day to another, both in speakers and through headphones.

I'm unable to think what the origin of the problem might be, since from the day it was working to the following day when it wasn't, nothing was installed/deinstalled/upgraded/changed.

It's not a hardware problem, because I tested booting Mint from a USB and sound was working.

Following the Ubuntu troubleshooting procedure (help.ubuntu.com/.../SoundTroubleshootingProcedure), I can give the following hints towards the problem,  but don't know what to do. Any help is much appreciated.

1) when running:

killall pulseaudio; rm -r ~/.config/pulse/* ; rm -r ~/.pulse*

I get no such file or directory error for:  ~/.pulse*

2) Computer is up to date; however running:

ubuntu-support-status --show unsupported

showed some (I think) sound-related packages among them, such as avahi, alsa-mixer, or pavumeter.  I think these somehow unsupported necessary packages is the source of the problem.This is the complete output of the command:

Unsupported:

4) I also run the Alsa diagnostic command:

wget -O alsa-info.sh www.alsa-project.org/alsa-info.sh && chmod +x ./alsa-info.sh && ./alsa-info.sh

which showed that no soundcard is being found.... Here is the complete output:

My sound card is enabled and disabled at random at a BIOS level, might be similar to what you're seeing.
