This is entirely up to you, and what you are trying to accomplish. The only
question of "worth" is whether or not you wish to use extra disk space for
running both on the same machine. However, I always prefer to run Linux
exclusively.
If you are trying to just "learn the ropes" of Linux, but still prefer
Windows for day to day tasks, then you probably just want to use VM's. You
will actually be more inclined to use Linux more this way since it does not
require you to reboot only to find yourself "stuck" in an environment you
don't fully understand, yet.
I just did the same and its really simple made a 10GB partition for Ubuntu 7.04 booted from the CD had a play on the live Cd for a bit then installed it.
