Installing Ubuntu 13.04 on Dell XPS 12 9Q23 in multi booth mode
Installing Ubuntu 13.04 on Dell XPS 12 9Q23 in multi booth mode
Hello people,
I have been trying this for a couple of days now. I want to install Ubuntu alongside Windows 8
I know Ubuntu works on the XPS 12 (see Youtube video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1FWzqXYc8cc).
I have downloaded what I believe to be the correct ISO file (ubuntu-13.04-desktop-amd64.iso) from Ubuntu Web Site.
I have checked the downloaded ISO file integrity using MD5Sum
I have created a live USB (16 GB Make PNY) using Start Up Disk Creator
I am not very clear on these points:
1) Pre-partitioning the disk, which is apparently necessary to achieve a multi-booth system. I have resized the Windows partition as I seem to understand that Ubuntu could then reside on the freed-up space????
2) What do I need to disable/enable on the Dell XPS BIOS? Reading the posts on Ubuntu Forums I got different ideas that seem confusing and even contradictory
When I attempt the installation I get as far as the Option screen stage (asking if I want to only try Ubuntu, do an Installation and 2 more options.
I chose the Try Ubuntu option and the screen goes black. I can see the USB being accessed, as the led is flashing and I know the system is running in some capacity, but without screen image there is very little that I can do.
Thank you for all the help.

Screen brightness is set to 0, so you don't see a thing. Use Fn-F5 to up the brightness as desired.
You need add acpi_backlight=vendor to /etc/default/grub to make this permanent.
