Ubuntu Flash/Update BIOS with Firmware-tools
Hello, I need to update (flash) my BIOS using this guide: http://linux.dell.com/wiki/index.php/Repository/firmware#Putting_it_all_together
I'm using Ubuntu 8.10 Server on Dell Dimension 3000
I've followed the instructions, I think 'all' went well...
I get "Couldn't find any package whose name..." but I think thats normal, right?
So, thinking all is going well, I run:
--------------------
root@server:~# update_firmware
Running system inventory...
Searching storage directory for available BIOS updates...
Checking System BIOS for Dimension 3000 - a02
Did not find a newer package to install that meets all installation checks.
This system does not appear to have any updates available.
No action necessary.
--------------------
As you can see, I'm trying to update an old Dimension 3000 - a02 to a03. I don't think its in the Repositories but it is available to download from Dell Support as seen here:
http://support.us.dell.com/support/downloads/download.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen&releaseid=R115211&formatcnt=1&libid=0&fileid=151932So the question is, what can I do? I'm sure someone needs to add that BIOS image to the Repositories....
Thanks for your time,
Trevor.

I wouldn't have known about those BIOS update utilities without your question, so thanks. I can only suggest posting to the mailing list on your link for support. I've been searching today for how (on earth) ubuntu users are supposed to upgrade their BIOS so I would be interested in how you get on.
Just looking myself

it would appear that, currently, BIOS updates aren't being copied across to the dell-firmware-repository, which I guess is what your problem is.
