Ubuntu runs quite well on it. Well, the LiveCD detects everything flawlessly at least.

I'm going to give Gentoo a shot once my 100GB hdd arrives.

It's hard to go wrong with ANY distro of linux.

I've done RedHat (since 5.1)/ Fedora and Linspire (since 2.?) as well as quite a few others; Mepis, Yoper, DSL, and on and on.

Depending on your personal tastes and skills (Linspire is my main squeeze... Desktops AND Laptops... hard distro to beat... easy install, easy program install via CNR, etc. Great forums/support group(s)) Yoper if you want raw speed and max performance from x86 CPUs. Yoper can be a bit of a fit to install... depends...

I've said it before and I'll say it again... ANY distro/version of Linux is head and shoulders above Brand-X. PERIOD!

In a nutshell, try them all! See what floats your boat. 8>)

'til later,
john

Go for Ubuntu 6.10 Edgy. It's the best distro around and you'd get a good feel of Linux too. Install Beryl on it and you'd find it to be more awesome than Vista. Remember, install Edgy and don't go for Dapper/LTS versions.

You could download and install a couple of different distros totyr out. I personally like PCLINUXOS. Everything worked including my wireless and excluding my winmodem. The NVIDIA drivers were easy to install using Synaptic. I was able to dual boot easily with Win XP. I have been using PCLINUSOS since August. I use it 95% of the time, using my XP for the other 5%. Music is playing in the background, while I type this. I have 10 desktops and open programs on each one. And I never seem to tax my system.
