2007 wfp constant screen blackouts

For the past 2 months my Dell 2007wfp has been experiencing constant screen blackouts. My monitor may be working fine then if I decide to turn it off (just the monitor) and then turn it back on the screen will flash on for a second then revert to and stay black. I like to keep my computer on for work purposes but also will turn off the monitor if I'm not using it, yet if I turn my monitor back on the screen will stay black. The DVI (2) display and on/off display will be green yet the monitor screen itself stays black. If I put my computer to sleep and I try to wake it back up, the computer will come back to working condition but the monitor rarely will. If I restart my computer the screen will stay black. Just now I left my computer on as I watched a TV show, the screen saver came on, then power save so it turned off my display (as it should) yet when I came back to use my computer the monitor would stay at a black screen even though I have green lights and not amber. I restarted my computer twice and the display would stay black. I had to shut it down and just give up until the monitor was ready to come back on. I turned on my computer and monitor (from cold) and now it works fine for now. I've tried a different monitor and did not experience this problem. My only solution so far is to avoid turning off my monitor. If I was to turn off my monitor right this moment and then turn it back on there's a very likely chance the screen would remain black unless I shut down/restarted. Any help is appreciated. Thank you. My specs are Vista Home Premium Athlon 64 3200+ 1.5 GB RAM 7600 GT

Are you using VGA or DVI?

No Basically, it happens when I turn off the monitor and then want to turn it back on again, or when left idle and eventually power save will turn it off and it will be unable to come back and display properly. The screen does come on, but it stays black. The computer still functions yet I can't see anything.

I am having the same problem you are, it's very annoying. I tried using VGA, but after POST, my monitor reports the screen signal is not working, and I should set it to 1050x1680 at 60hz, which it ALREADY is on because I just switched from DVI on these settings.

All,

Run this and tell me if the issue persists.

* Power off the monitor
* Disconnect all cabling from the bottom and/or sides of the monitor (especially the power cord)
* Press and hold the monitor power button down for 5 seconds
* Reconnect only the monitor power cord and either the #1 blue VGA or #2 white DVI (not both)
* Power the monitor on
* The PC should already be on. The monitor should auto sense the #1 blue VGA or #2 white DVI. If it does not, press the Input Select button and change to #1 VGA or #2 DVI

I did as you suggested. When I turned the monitor back on it just flashed the screen (as always when problem persists) for a second and blacked out once again. For the past hour my monitor has not been able to display and stay. It has been very frustrating. I appreciate any help and/or suggestions given.

My monitor hasn't worked correctly for the past day now, I also tried the self test and it failed so I believe I need a replacement.
