2208WFP doesnt' work on DVI mode, only on VGA

* Power off the PC
* Power off the monitor
* Disconnect the power cord from the monitor
* Disconnect all monitor cords from the PC video card
* While disconnected, press and hold the monitor power button down for 3 seconds
* Reconnect only the DVI cord from the monitor to the PC video card
* Reconnect the power cord to the monitor
* Power on the monitor if it does not power on by itself
* Power on the PC
* Press the monitor Input Source Select button and switch to #2 DVI

I have the same problem, permament black screen with the SP2208WFP connected with DVI. I tried the "magic ritual" you provided, but with no success. Also, removing the VGA connector (edited, I had written card)  turned to be difficult, since it was scr3wed (sorry, filter) in so hard I had to use a screwdriver to unscrew it, almost damaginig the connector screws and having the two small screws on the monitor unscrewing together with the connector.

What happens: at boot-up the screen remains blank and even when pressing "auto detect" it remains on the analog input (even if no cable is connected).
I'm testing with a somewhat old pc: a Dell, but I would be unable to tell you the model, it's from 2003 and it's a P4 2.4Ghz, video card:

01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation NV18 [GeForce4 MX 440 AGP 8x] (rev a2)

The problem seems to be that the video card does not recognize the presence of the monitor at boot-up.
I've decided for a somewhat drastic test, and booted with the old screen connected, then switched the DVI cables to connect the new. with the PC running. The image shows up perfectly, which seems to indicate that it's indeed the video card unable to detect the presence of the screen (the inverse holds true, if I boot with the new and then switch to the old, the screen stays blank). Could it be the video card which is too old?

Can you provide some more technical details on what's going on (and how I can solve it)? Is there any way to "force" the screen to report its presence on the DVI port?

Unfortunatly I need it fast :(, in France we have a 7-day return policy and if I'm unable to have both inputs working I'll have to return it by the end of the week for reimbursement.

Ok, I'm on a newer PC with a dual-screen set-up which I can use for diagnosis.  I'm using a Geforce8800GT, and I'm under linux.  I've forced the video card to assume that whatever the case, a DFP is connected to the 2nd display port (I used the ConnectedMonitor command).  The screen works, at 640x480 but something bad is happening.  The nvidia driver reports the following (the SP2208WFP is the secondary screen, i.e. the DFP-1):

The (WW) line indicates that the screen does not return any EDID.
(the nvidia driver is the latest, i.e. 169.09).
Is there anything I can do?  Right now I can try to find the correct graphics mode info somewhere and coerce the card into providing it, but I want to be able to boot using this screen on an alternate PC, so I need a solution.....

I think like " Brickmaster" that the video card doesn't recognize the monitor at boot-up.
Tomorrow, I will try to check with another PC (then another video card).

I think I would prefer buy a new video card than to call Dell to change or fix my new monitor... :smileywink:

I've been on the phone with Dell tech support (the French branch) and they didn't suggest much of testing, only to try with a different DVI cable (which I had already done).  Then they told me they're sending in a replacement in the next 10 days.
It should definitely fix the problem :)

I called Dell technical support. They only asked me to test with another DVI cable (already done) and decided to replace the monitor this week :smileysurprised: (I kept the box... :smileywink: )
For information, revision level of my monitor is A00.
