2709W and Displayport
hi,
I've got a Dell UltraSharp 2709W (rev. A01) connected to my Gigabyte HD4870 (GV-R487D5-1GD) via DisplayPort (using the cable that came with the monitor) but I can't get a signal
I have the latest drivers and even the latest BIOS for the videocard
when I connect the two with both DisplayPort and DVI I see that in the Catalyst Control Center that it detects yet while DVI outputs fine but the DisplayPort still has no signal
unfortunately I can't send an email to tech support as I've got only Windows 7 on this machine (wont give me any choices for that field), hopefully I can get some ideas from here instead

* Power the PC and monitor off
* Disconnect the DVI cable from the monitor and the video card
* Connect only the DisplayPort cable to the monitor and the video card
* Power on the monitor
* Press the monitor Input Select button and choose DisplayPort
* Power on the PC
* Does anything appear on the monitor?

thanks for the quick response but unfortunately it still displays nothing after that, the monitor stays in sleep mode

Some Ati video card users have had success using the Ati Tray Tools -
* Install ATI Tray Tools and see if a Hot Key combination will wake it up
* Menu- Hot Keys- Enable Hot Keys (make sure it is checked)
* Menu- Hot Keys- Customize
* Add new Hot Key
* Miscellaneous- Reload display driver
* Assign a Hot Key (I used ALT + T) - Ok
* Now, every time your monitor goes into power save mode you can revive it by pressing ALT + T (you can use any keys you want of course). This also works if you have completely powered off your the monitor

unfortunately Windows Vista and Windows 7 are not supported by ATI Tray Tools, can not get it to run correctly on either OS

Get it replaced and check the replacement monitors DisplayPort. If you only have a monitor order number, you should contact Customer Service. If your monitor was purchased tied to a Dell PC, contact Technical Support. They will need the following -
Name:
Email Address:
Shipping address:
Phone number:
Monitor Order number or PC Service Tag number if purchased with a PC:
Monitor 20 digit PPID number found on the back on a label or on the slider card on the left rear:
Reason: S2709W no picture on DisplayPort

In the latest download of Ati Tray Tools, the Add new Hot Key function is no longer there. You need to go first to the icon
Edit Hot Key Properties
Miscellaneous - Reload display driver
Press ALT + T (or any other key)
Then ALT + T (or any other key) showed up miraculously at the space reserved for Hot Key
Not very intuitive
