Dell E153FP screen goes dark

Hello..first time forum user here. Need some help with this frustrating problem. When I start up my Dell Dimension 2400 (running Windows XP)... as soon as the Dell logo flashes my E153FP monitor goes dark. Sometimes it will come back on for a second when the Windows logo appears & then dark again. Power light is green. I can see faint images in background while Windows starts running. If I turn the monitor off & then right back on the screen lights up for a second & then goes off again. Passes self monitor test (I can faintly see test running). Ran Dell Diagnostics by continually turning monitor on & off so I could view results for a few seconds before going dark again. Error code OFOO:136C is the only error that came up. Tried booting up in both Safe Mode & Safe Mode with Command Prompt and same problem occurs. Driver? Power mode? OSD settings? If I have to use the Dell technical support fee based service I might as well just buy a new monitor. So hope one of you experts might be able to help with this one. I'm using another laptop here at home to write this for obvious reasons :) Thanks!!

I have repaired a few of these. Problem is unless you can do electronics repair, fixing a 15" screen doesn't make much economic sense. I do it for a hobby or else I would not bother

Thanks for your reply tr4. Surprisingly you're the only one who has offered any help. The thing is that I really don't think the problem is with the monitor because if I spend an hour or so playing around with it I can get it to stay on until I shut down. I think the problem is that the monitor is somehow not synching up with Windows on initial start up. I think the Windows settings got messed up somehow. I just don't know what setting(s) is (are) faulty or how to fix it so I guess I'll just have to buy a new monitor as you suggest & hope that does solve the problem. Hate to spend the $$ as I only use it for internet & email. Thanks again for the response.

It's not surprising, monitor repair is electronics, not computer. I've been in it long enough to where things got fixed by the tech, not just replaced.

For cheap, you can get a crt monitor as they are practically throw away today just as black and white were when color became affordable.
