Dell U2413 source/input signal Auto-select & undetectable by Dell Display Manager when connected to dell USB 3.0 docking station via USB
Dell U2413 source/input signal Auto-select & undetectable by Dell Display Manager when connected to dell USB 3.0 docking station via USB.
Dear Dell Monitor/display specialists,
I've bought this amazing monitor - I love its colours, contrast and image quality of this Utralsharp U2413 monitor. However, I have 2 on going issues which have become a real genuine issue for me in making use of this monitor:
#1 This monitor lacks Auto-Select option for Input Source. It has only Scan Sources and if I choose that unfortunately, it won't select automatically the right/expected input source, though in the same scenario and conditions Dell U2412M same feature works smoothly and as expected. Why do I need it so badly is because I keep two docking stations connected to these monitor in crossing: i.e. one laptop for work and one for personal use. Obviously, all cables are properly connected and they work just fine, however, when 1 laptop is switched off the U2412M automatically switches to the other input source - video signal generated by the second laptop. However, U2413 never does it - I always had to do it manually - however, this has become more than annoying now after months of daily manually changed, is the second time that the buttons touch sensitive on U2413 don't respond to touch anylonger making it impossible to change the input source even manually.
#2 Second issue is related to your software Dell Display Manager (I've got latest version installed 1.50) - it works brilliantly but only when U2413 is directly connected to the video card or with E series different dell plus docking station. It does Not work with your Dell USB 3.0 docking station - by DisplayLink Manager. Obviously, I've tried with latest drivers available even from DisplayLink page directly - no joy. Dell Display Manager always showing: Please connect a supported Dell Monitor message - I've tried power cycling the monitor - all the troubleshooting stops. I believe, Dell Display Manager is not expecting the connection of the monitor via USB. As you know both Dell XPS15 and Precission 3800 cannot be connected to the docking station plus through the previously docking station interface due to their beautifully light/slim shapes but only via Dell USB 3.0 docking station, hence, the later released Dell USB 3.0 which I have but with either XPS15 or Precision 3800 neither of them Dell Display Manager would recognize my U2413 as connected. What's the main downside - you cannot tune colour profiles, brightness, contrast, etc, remotely (using your wireless mouse or keyboard) you need again to come physically to the monitor and adjust them manually from the touch buttons, when instead everything would work beautifully if Dell Display Manager would've recognized U2413 as connected - when it is actually connected to the dell USB 3.0 docking station.
For item #1 - I would expect this to be resolved via a simple firmware upgrade of the monitor. Can you please direct me to the exact step by steps and latest version on how to perform the upgrade please? Checking online - I see a 1.14 version released in June 2014 as being the latest version (in which chipset manufactor logs the same issue reported and fixed)- I need exact steps on how to perform that and also md5 hash of the firmware file to confirm firmware image as being correct prior the firmware upgrade.
For item #2 - I would expect a both Dell USB 3.0 newer driver version along with Dell Display Manager new version that would expect/search for Dell Support monitors via USB interface as well. What is the ETA, who can we get in touch with to get this further to both R&D teams (Dell Display Manager and Dell Docking station)?
I've tried getting in touch with Dell Monitor Support and I've been placed in multiple queues from one to another - as nobody was aware of the issues nor probably didn't want to take ownership of this and when I got to a Monitor specialist eventually after aprox. 30 mins spent to re-explain the issues to each person who said I was in the wrong queue, the connection was interrupted.
Thank you for your co-operation.
Resolving this two issues will benefit all XPS, Precision series laptop that have acquired UltraSharp monitors and Dell USB 3.0 docking stations, so there's a lot of customers affected by the above two items mentioned.
Regards,

This monitor lacks Auto-Select option for Input Source.
* This is by design. Per the manufacturer decision, any monitor with four or more video inputs will not get Auto-Select. We do not have any mechanism in place to allow customers to flash the firmware on this Dell monitor. This is only done in our service centers on New and returned monitors. The only way to get a different revision is via a monitor exchange. But, an exchange is only setup if there is a monitor hardware failure. You cannot get an exchange just because there may be a newer firmware. Even then, we have no way of knowing which revision will actually ship.
DDM and USB 3.0 docks.
DDM does not work with any of the Dell USB 3.0 docks. DisplayLink does not support DDC/CI. DDM uses DDC/CI to work with the monitor which is we state that the monitor USB upstream cable be connected directly to the computer USB port.
