Out of range: please please help

Does the out of range error box refer to what the adapter is putting out or the monitor ? This is what it showes ..  H 31 - 54HZ     V 50 - 99HZ

I am trying to obtain the settings for a Dimension 2400..I am very excited about my new Dell but cant afford the monitor so I am trying to use my old monitor. I have called Dell Tech but they send me here without the default monitor refresh rates. So thus my question...jackie

Just noticed your new post, please see my reply to your last topic in this forum, try software forum. These are the specifications for your existing MV520 Compaq monitor:

Display Resolutions:
1024 x 768: ...................................... 60 Hz (max resolution)
800 x 600 (default mode): .......... 60, 75 and 85 Hz (max flicker-free)
640 x 480: ............................................ 60, 75 and 85 Hz
Text Mode: ............................................ 720 x 400 - 70 Hz

Your video adapter is putting out a signal your monitor can't lock on to. H and V are the range your monitor will accept. You need VGA or Safe mode which don't work for you.

Thank you for the tips JD . Im Innn!!!!  Below are the steps I took to reset out of range in Window XP...(These steps should work for any monitor out there)

Find Boot menu with F8 key right after Dell screen but before windows screen.

Enable VGA mode then press enter.

Then press enter for Windows XP.

Right click the background portion of the desk top, go to properties -settings - advanced.

Here you will find adapter tab click it then All Modes .

From the list pick your monters range click it and your set.

If you dont know the range then experament with different modes untill you find yours. Thanks again JD...
