There is just a USB port and the Mini Display/Thunderbolt.

MacBook Thunderbolt out port --> Thunderbolt/USB Type-C to DP cable --> P2214H DP in port

I also do not have a service tag number as the monitor was made in 2015 and does not have one (from what I gathered online) so I am unable to contact dell about it.

The P series monitors are not validated by Dell in macOS. See the FAQ =
FAQ Dell monitor and Apple

It sounds like the source (MacBook) video out port is HDMI which is not going to work. A source (PC) HDMI out port cannot "upconvert" to a monitor DP in port. Below are the options I see for you =

MacBook HDMI out port --> HDMI to DVI cable --> P2214H DVI in port
MacBook HDMI out port --> HDMI to VGA cable --> P2214H VGA in port

thanks for the reply! So if my Mac doesn’t have an HDMI output i am hooped? Or would the DVI or VGA to HDMI work? And then get an HDMI to thunderbolt or mini display in order to plug into my Mac or will that still not work and the incoming cable to my Mac needs to be an HDMI?

Thanks
