P2418HZ, camera usage with a laptop camera

Hi Chris,

Is there something more automated in place, like a tool from Dell that enables and disables the cameras, as this is not applicable to large organizations or companies where the simple users do not have any admin privileges?

In my case I have DELL Latitude 7390, Dell multimedia monitor P2418HZ and Dell docking station WD15. This is really annoying when i need to dock or undock the laptop from the docking station. And it is more annoying to enable and disable the cameras in Windows device manager every time.

Started your own thread.

You are referencing the instruction on page 57, "If you want to set up the monitor webcam as default setting, you need to disable the notebook built-in webcam.". That was a design choice made by the manufacturer. You can see on the P2418HZ driver page that we did not release an automated utility to disable/enable the laptop built-in webcam.

Maybe the manufacturer should reconsider this decision as the set I mentioned is not considered at all a SOHO equipment

We can let them know your opinion for possible future models.

Hi,

For me the problem is solved. Dell released the Realtek IR Camera Driver again on the 4th of October. After an automatic installation via the Dell Command Update tool the camera in the monitor was installed with a different name and could be selected in Skype.
