P2419HC, MacBook Pro, power adapter question

I got the P2419HC. It has the USB Type-C connection which I can use to connect my MacBook. This P2419HC charges the connected device with USB Type-C connection and this cannot be turned off. So I was wondering if it is safe to connect this to the MacBook Pro while the MacBook Pro is powered by it's own charger? I'm not sure connecting both will damage the MacBook Pro.

Or, should I only connect the P2419HC into the MacBook Pro since the P2419HC can power the MacBook Pro? Is the monitor power safe for the MacBook Pro?

If you have experience with similar monitors please let me know.

The P2419HC USB Type-C port and USB Type-C to C cable can PD (Power Delivery) up to 65W (20V/3.25A). So if the MacBook Pro AC power adapter is 65W or less, you should not need to connect the MacBook Pro AC power adapter to the MacBook.

Also, read through all of the P2419HC threads on the Apple Forum to see how they use it.

@gayanper  It’s completely fine. The system will only draw power from the source it wants to use. The power source(s) can’t “force” the system to accept power it doesn’t want. USB PD involves a negotiation between the power source and power sink (device being charged) that is designed to prevent devices from receiving power levels they can’t handle or trying to draw more power than the source is designed to provide. You’ll be fine. But as noted above, if 65W is sufficient for your system, you wouldn’t need to keep another source connected anyway. And on that topic, as a general tip, when asking technical questions it’s good to provide specific technical information, like your exact system model, not just “MacBook” or “MacBook Pro”. An exact model would be something like “Mid-2019 15-inch MacBook Pro”.

Hi Thanks for you quick reply. My mac book pro model is

MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2020, Four Thunderbolt 3 ports)

I assume your answer will be still valid for this model as well.

@gayanper  Yes the answer is still valid, although given that the 2020 MBP 13" is designed for a 61W power source and the P2419HC can provide up to 65W of power, there's no reason for you to connect the MBP's charger separately.  It can get the power it needs from the USB-C connection to the display.
