P2719HC, Buzzing, MacBook Pro 2018
Hi guys,
Has anyone noticed that there is a buzzing noise when P2719HC is connected to MacBook Pro 2018 (13")?
The monitor specifications says it supports up to 65W, and since MacBook Pro 2018 (13") only requires 61W, I would have expected it to work.
If I connect the monitor via USB-C whilst the laptop is plugged in to charger no buzzing noise. As soon as I remove the laptop charger the buzzing noise appears. The buzzing noise is consistent and reproducible all the time.
I have seen to try adjusting brightness/contrast on other discussions, but this didn't help my problem. It's an affordable monitor, but it's a shame that doesn't serve the purpose.
The whole point of buying a USB-C monitor was to only use USB-C to connect the laptop and charge at the same time. If anyone has any suggestions please let me know.
Kind regards

Dell never validated the P2719HC with the proprietary Apple hardware and operating system. The P2719HC User's Guide make no mention of Apple. In fact, on page 10 by USB Type-C connector it states =
NOTE: USB Type-C is not supported on versions of Windows prior to Windows 10
Before returning the monitor, consider getting a TB3/USB Type-C to DP cable and test it. You should also post the issue on the Apple Forum and see what other Apple users have done as far as Apple PC troubleshooting and possible Apple proprietary cabling to purchase.

Chris,
Thanks for the quick response, much appreciated.
I forgot to mention that I have tested with a HDMI cable (of course with a usb-c dock) and no buzzing at all. However the whole reason I was after a USB-C monitor was the power delivery and being able to charge the laptop at the same time.
I will give it a try with a USB-C to DP cable, but would that deliver power though?
Kind regards

Page 10 =
You can attach the monitor to PC using a USB type C cable, to get the monitor experience as
below:
* support data transmission speed up to USB 3.1
* Display resolution up to 1920x1080@60Hz on Display Port 1.2 alternate mode
* Power delivery of 20V/3.25A, 15V/3A, 9V/3A, 5V/3A
The fact that it mentions USB Type C and Display Port then Power delivery, it would seem so.

Above is extracted from the page 10 of the User manual, and looking at it it only mentions about DisplayPort 1.2 alternate mode support when you use USB-C cable. Also looking at the spec of DP, it cannot carry power (at least not as hight as 65W)

I had a bit more time to troubleshoot this issue. As you can see the Wattage is incorrectly identified as 376W when the laptop is connected to the monitor via USB-C cable provided.
However if I use the MacBook USB-C charger cable to connect the laptop and the monitor it detects the correct wattage (65W). Of course you will have no video at this point because the MacBook USB-C charger cable only designed to carry power.
So I wonder if the problem is with the provided USB-C cable with the monitor. I am going to purchase a new USB-C cable and test this tomorrow. Will keep you posted

For others information who may come across the same issue:
I have tested with DP to USB-C cable, no noise, but obviously no power delivery.
I have also tested with a passive USB-C - USB-C cable and the same buzzing issue
Wouldn't work with active USB-C - USB-C cable
Unfortunately the monitor has to go back and I am looking for alternative option

Unfortunately not. I even tried a replacement with the same issue. End up buying a Dell U3419W as I needed USB-C and works very well.
