S2417DG, G-Sync flicker issue, other suggestions?
I have tried every fix I could possibly find on Dell forums or any other site on the internet. I have had G-Sync flicker on this S2417DG ever since I purchased this monitor 4 years ago. I know I am way passed any warranty at this point so I am desperate for any other troubleshooting steps.
I started with a GTX 1070, i7-6700k, Gigabyte Z170x-UD3 Ultra, 16GB DDR4 3200 ram, 850 EVO SSD. The flicker was so bad I had to just disable G-Sync, terrible feeling disabling such an expensive feature in a monitor. I had tried over the years anything I could think of or find troubleshooting wide. Nothing made any difference.
Since then I got my hands on a 3080 FE. I am soon going to upgrade processor and motherboard and also to an M.2. But I don't think any of this is going to change my flickering issue. It is still happening with the 3080 FE just as bad as on the 1070. Even though most games with max settings are around 50 to 200 frames depending on the game.
It does seem like the flicker happens the most, exactly when you would want G-Syncs benefit. Meaning if my frames are stable there seems to be less flicker. But the whole point of G-Sync is to smooth out frame variance with your monitors refresh rate.
I have seen the Dell post about this exact monitor model and this exact issue but I have tried both Full Screen and Windowed mode, it is the same no matter what. I have tried multiple different display port cables. I have tried factory resetting the monitor. I have tried changing the power settings in Nvidia control panel. I have tried with VSync on or off in game.
I am using either a game or the Nvidia Pendulum program test.
The last few times I have tested it seems like, if I turn on Full Screen only in Control Panel for G-Sync, then open the Pendulum, it looks ok until the frames drop somewhere around 80. Then between 80 and 30 its a flicker fest. It is headache inducing it is so bad. After that it seems to even flicker over 80 frames, until it stays over 80 for a few seconds, then it levels off and is ok, until it drops down again.
Also, at first when I would try to open Pendulum, it would set to full screen it seems like. It kept giving me some error about the settings not detecting, or applying correctly. It almost seems like it is trying to run in windowed mode, even though I check off full screen.
Can anyone think of something I am doing wrong to cause this behavior other than the multitude of things I have already tried? Is it possible there is no fix and I just have a bad monitor and I should have returned it right away? Is it possible some other hardware can cause a flicker only when G-Sync is enabled? Like a bad motherboard or processor?
Thanks in advance for any ideas anyone might have.
