S3221QS, macOS, flicker, vertical lines

Dell S3221QS

Dell S3221QS

Hi,

I have a Dell S3221QS connected to MacBook Pro running Mac OS Monterey 12.5. When I watch content with certain grey levels, the screen just starts to flicker and some alternating vertical lines appear throughout the screen, it happens with the USB-C - DisplayPort cable and HDMI - HDMI cable. I tried to connect the same MacBook Pro to Dell S3222DGM, no issue at all.

First, concerning your macOS issue, per the "Dell monitor, Apple FAQ", none of the Dell D/E/G/P/S/SE/Alienware monitors have macOS support from Dell. That being said, on some of the S series monitors we did provide a macOS firmware update.

Second, what specific MacBook Pro?

Third, are you testing using an Apple branded USB-C to HDMI cable?

Fourth, read and post the issue on the Apple Forum to get their troubleshooting opinion.

Hi Chris,

1. I did just upgrade the firmware last week to M2C103 which is released this May. Before the firmware update(M2C101?), USB-C to Display port barely worked, with the monitor going on and off all the time and if I used HDMI-HDMI, it's OK most of the time but only has these vertical lines flickering. After the firmware update, the UBC-C to Display port is working without going on and off anymore, but it still suffers the same issue as HDMI-HMDI, the vertical lines flickering at certain grey scale.

2. I'm using 16 inch 2021 MacBook Pro, Chip: Apple M1 Pro, System: macOS Monterey 12.5

3. Apple doesn't have USB-C to HDMI cable but my MacBook Pro came with a built-in HDMI port, and I've tried multiple high-quality HDMI-HDMI cables, the vertical lines issue shows up no matter which cable I used.

4. I contact apple support but their suggestions didn't help. I'll try the suggestions posted you mentioned.

Thanks for your timely response.

Also, could you tell me which Series or Dell monitors have official macOS support?

Does Dell plan to support macOS with the S series at all?

* I have NOT received any email stating that macOS support would be extended to S series. DELL-Chris M
