U2410, Displayport, Will not exit Power Save Mode
Hello,
Thank you for the time to read this and helping me out.
Problem: Dell U2410 Rev A04 is always entering power save with display port or VGA. Tried it with two different computers.
Story: Monitor was working perfectly fine with display port until I turned it off and went out of state for two weeks. Came back, I tried to reconnect and the monitor was entering power save mode. I use a Thinkpad W520. I can connect this computer to another monitor just fine. While the computer is on and connected to the monitor, if I pressed the button above the power, it says there is no signal from the computer and move mouse to wake up. Also, I have noticed the initial sound of pressing that button is dampened. It is very short and quiet compared to the usual audio feedback. This does not occur when I repress that button or if I press the power button first. The monitor is still in warranty but I prefer not to send it in as Dell will send me a refurbed one. I have browsed around the web but most problems are caused only by switching to a display port or are not resolved.
Thanks Again.

* Power off the PC
* Power off the monitor
* Disconnect the power cord from the monitor
* Disconnect all monitor cords from the PC (USB, DVI, VGA, DisplayPort, HDMI, etc.)
* While disconnected, press and hold the monitor power button down for 3 seconds
* Reconnect the power cord and DP to the monitor
* Power the PC on and then the monitor
* Change the Input Select to DP

Hi,
I have the same problem. I have been using my U2410 connected with DisplayPort for several months until yesterday without problems. I switched off my PC and left the monitor in power saving mode for some hours. When I turned on my computer, the monitor said there's no signal from my computer and entered power saving mode. I've tried disabling and re-enabling DDC/CI, factory reset and your advice above, but nothing helped. I'm using it with DVI-D now, it works fine, but the 10bit color feature is missing.
My computer is a HP ProBook 6550b WD704EA with ATI Mobility Radeon HD540v and a VB043AA docking station, but I've checked it without docking also, same result. Now if the monitor is connected to the notebook with DP, Windows cannot identify the monitor as secondary display. The DP cable is the factory one. Please advise.

Hi Chris,
Nothing new happens. When I choose DP as input source, the monitor says "Entering power save mode".

Disconnect everything from the monitor except for the power cord and the DP cable. The only thing I want connecting the monitor and the PC is the Dell DP cable. Power on the PC, then the monitor. Press the monitor Input Source Select button and cycle through to DP. What happens?

i tried your suggestion and my dell studio monitor still will not come out of sleep mode, or something else is wrong. it was made in 2005 and i have used it without ever a problem. it remained black when i turned it on a couple weeks ago and has not lit up since. when i push the front button next to the power button it says:
2: DVI-D A04
power saver on press any key etc.
nothing happens when i press the keys or power button.
do you have any other thoughts on what i can do? thanks, morganne

I had this problem with the Dell U2410. Once the monitor is turned off, turning it on it notifies that it is entering "Power Save Mode". There was no way to get the monitor to redisplay. I had to reboot, losing all data that was not saved.
Try this.
1. Make sure the monitor is on in its "death-grip" sleep mode.
2. Press on one of the other monitor buttons (just above the power button) until it says comes up with the message:
MESSAGE U2410
There is no signal from your computer
Press any key on the keyboard or move the mouse to wake it up.
If there is not display, press the monitor button not to select the correct
input source on the On-Screen-Display menu.
3. While this message is up, press the monitor button (above the power button) until the on-screen-display menu appears.
4. From the on-screen display menu, select the 'Scan Sources' option.
5. Press the button next to the check-mark.
The monitor will rescan where it is getting input. It will decide that it is getting input from the display port, but as a side-effect it will redisplay.

I have now had the problem of the U2410 going into the Power Save Mode state twice several months apart.
Both times the above advice has resolved the problem, although I wonder why it does this, and if there is some other permanent fix so it doesn't happen again.
My U2410 Rev A is connected to two computers:
1. A MacPro 1,1 with a Radeon HD 4870 video card, and connected via DVI-D1
2. A PC with an i7-2600K CPU, and a Radeon 6950 video card, with Windows 7 Home Premium, and all updates applied, connected via an HDMI cable.
Because I have not had any trouble with the monitor on the Mac side, I know it is not a monitor problem.
The power save mode problem seems to happen out of the blue, and so far has not occurred after any updates.
I will watch to see if someone comes up with a permanent fix for this problem.

I have this problem: My monitor said "Entering Power Save Mode" after attaching an HDMI cable. It worked with a VGA cable. I tried to attach the HDMI cable to another U2410 monitor and it worked for a while. When I moved the cable a little bit then it started flickering and said "Entering Power Save Mode" after a while.
So my guess is that the problem is in the cable. Maybe U2410 is just very picky about the signal quality. I'll try to buy some better, shorter, perhaps shielded cable to see if it solves this problem.

I am having an issue similar to this. I have a U2713h I think it may have to do with the settings, but because I cannot connect to the monitor, I cannot get into the menu to do a factory reset. Is there a way to "hard reset" the monitor without using the OSD?
I can connect to the exact same model monitor with the same cable, and I've tried other cables that work with other monitors and they will not work with this monitor. I'm pretty sure I've isolated it to a monitor issue.
Any help with how to reset the factory settings without having a computer connected would be helpful.
Thanks,
Mark

Mark,
* Turn off the monitor
* Disconnect all cabling from the bottom and side of the monitor (especially the power cord)
* While disconnected, press and hold the monitor power button in for 10 seconds
* Reconnect the power cord to the monitor
* Turn the monitor on. If working, it should say something about No Cable
* Turn the monitor off
* Connect ONLY one video cable from the monitor to the computer
* Power on the monitor, then the computer

Thanks for the reply, but same result. I tried it with different cables and other computers, too, so I'm pretty sure it's a monitor issue.
There is a box bouncing around the screen that says
"No Mini Displayort Cable
The display will go into Power Save Mode in 5 minutes."\\
The monitor is less than a month old. I'm using OSX 10.9 if that matters at all...

We do not test on apple proprietary hardware and cabling. But that message is normal if the monitor is not getting a signal. You mentioned other systems. Any of them have Windows? Do any of them have a video card with DVI? If yes, test the U2713H using our Dell supplied DVI cable to that Windows computer.

I'm sorry I mentioned that. I thought it might help diagnose the issue. The major issue is that:
1) Every cable we've tried works with every other monitor except this one, including the original.
2) The computer I'm using works with the exact same model monitor (3 of them) perfectly with every cable we've used.
I'm not sure what the issue could be, but it seems to be the monitor. I've tried the steps that you've provided a few times with no result. I'm not a huge fan of Apple computers, but this seems to be isolated to the monitor.
I've been reading that there could be something about the Mini DisplayPort 1.2 settings that could be an issue? Is there no way to hard reset this monitor to factory settings?

Doing the "power button in for 10 seconds" is the only way I know of that has worked in the past. You will need to contact Dell Support for your country to get the U2713H service tag into your name. Then they can setup a like for like monitor exchange.

Guys,
I had the same problem - it is I wanted to connect a DELL monitor into the DELL XPS 14Z laptop via VGA (monitor) -> VGA-miniDP converter -> miniDP (laptop) and I got this message on the monitor: "no signal coming from your laptop". You won't believe what helped - I switched the cable (it is I pluged the end from the monitor to the laptop and vice versa) and it works :D.
