In a single external monitor setup, MST/DP 1.2 should be Disabled. It is only Enabled if you are daisy chaining to a second monitor via the first monitor DP (DisplayPort) out port. E7440 mDP out port --> U2414H mDP to DP cable --> U2414H DP in port
The U2414H maxes to 1920x1080 60Hz, so you could also just use HDMI = E7440 HDMI out port --> HDMI to HDMI cable --> U2414H HDMI in port
Also for anyone looking for answers in 2021 - cable quality is so very important. I had a similar issue, switched from what's branded as a "4K" Display Port cable that was working fine on another system to an "8K" Display Port cable - problem solved.

I put the monitor into dp1.1 mode and it solved the problem. Thx.
However when I first set it up, I had to enable dp 1.2 in order to have the image. Like this: multimonitorcomputer.com/.../dell-u2414h-displayport-not-working.php
So this is a bit controversial...

That site has omitted some important information. Not all computer DP out ports support DP 1.2 As our Guide page 26 states =
