U2414H being called HDTV?
This is clearly some kind of an issue with the monitor. People all over the world are having problems with DP connection on the U2414H. Moreover, two professional reviews talk about very strange and absolutely uncommon behavior of the U2414H, when it connected over DP.
TFT Central: On top of this we did find the DisplayPort input to be incredibly fussy. We had a great deal of difficulty getting a laptop connected over DP, when normally on every other screen it's just a simple case of plugging it in and it automatically detecting the appropriate resolution and refresh rate. With the U2414H it seemed to occasionally work, but quite often the screen would inexplicably just show "entering power saving mode" or worse still seem to make the graphics card driver crash when it tried to use DisplayPort. We're not sure what was causing this, but it's the first screen we've used which gave us these kind of issues. From our normal testing PC the DisplayPort to Mini DisplayPort seemed to work fine thankfully. Had the screen featured VGA we could have avoided those issues with the laptop hopefully.
One other issue was that the DisplayPort connections didn't seem to detect a signal if your PC was waking up from sleep, so you'd have to unplug and re-plug the cable sometimes to get the screen to display anything again. Alternatively you can power the screen fully off and on again via the power button which allows it to redetect the input again.
PC Monitors: An Nvidia GTX 780 was used on our test system and we tested both DisplayPort and HDMI – with interesting results. When using either DisplayPort or HDMI the GPU sent out the wrong colour signal (‘Limited Range RGB 16-235’ instead of ‘Full Range RGB 0-255’). This reduced gamma, skewed white point, hugely impacted contrast and simply gave everything a washed out look. We are quite used to seeing this with Nvidia GPUs connected via HDMI as that is their default behaviour – treat the connected device as an HDTV. But we aren’t used to seeing this over DisplayPort which is currently a PC-only output. We tested the ‘MiniDP’ port as well as the full sized DP port using both DP 1.1 and DP 1.2. The native resolution of the monitor (1920 x 1080) is listed under ‘Ultra HD, HD, SD’ as ‘1080p, 1920 x 1080 (native) when connected by DisplayPort. This list of resolutions is designed for output in RGB 16-235 to devices such HDTVs. The resolution should instead be listed under ‘PC’ as ‘1920 x 1080 (native)’, but it isn’t.

A quick update on this. Both my U2414Hs are connected with DVI->HDMI cables now, and they look great (after the Nvidia RGB fix) and don't have any issues when I'm waking my computer from sleep. Hopefully this strange issue is fixed eventually, but know that there is a reasonable alternative (it's not a crazy hack).

I'm also having strange behavior with dp.
Some times the one of the screens is just not detected.
Right now i'm having an issue, that the screen is detected as Generic non pnp display, and i just can't change it's resolution.
I'm running a 3 screen setup all U2414H, screen card ati r9 290.
At first i ran all 3 under dp, with 1.2 enabled. now i gave up, and tried to run one of them with an dvi to hdmi cable, and i'm still running into problems.
Something must be wrong

This does not appear to have anything to do with Windows or the video card.
I ordered the Dell HDMI-to-DisplayPort adapter and when I plug it into the monitor without connecting it to my Dell laptop, I immediately get a pop-op on the monitor that says it is going into Power Save mode.
Furthermore, if I power down the monitor and power it up with nothing plugged in as a video source, it will show a pop-up saying I have 5 minutes to plug in a video signal until it goes into Power-Save. But if I plug the adapter in to the monitor (without connecting the adapter to the PC), power up the monitor, it immediately goes into Power Save mode.
So this has nothing to do with the PC, for me the problem is the DisplayPort adpater (which came from Dell) or the DisplayPort connector on the monitor.
One more thing - If I connect the adapter to the monitor and to my Dell laptop HDMI port, and put the laptop into "Projector" mode, the laptop says it does not sense a monitor connected to it and flips itself out of Projector mode. But that is expected I suppose since the monitor refuses to come out of Power Save mode whenever the DisplayPort adapter is plugged into it.
I have all Dell equipment in this - Dell montior, Dell laptop, and Dell HDMI-Displayport adapter and it does not work. Please fix this or tell me what to do to get it to work!

I returned my monitors today. However I love the form factor and want to order 6 of them again. I am waiting for Dell to recognize the issue and to either

Hey guys.
I've got the same monitor & i'm having all the same issues as you guys are - screen randomly turns off quite often & today for the first time there was a fair bit of interference occurring on the screen too...something i've never seen before.
I'm connecting to a late 2013 MBP Retina though DP into one of the MBP's 2 thunderbolt 2 ports.
Really quite annoying that Dell hasn't come up with a solution for these issues & that they are actually still selling the products if they are aware of these flaws...I bought this monitor last week & people have been posting on this forum making their problems clear weeks before that!
Would love some help from Dell.

It ridiculous that Dell still hasn't found or issued a fix for this despite that fact that many of their users. I might have a solution for some users using MacBooks with their U2414H. I found that when the integrated graphics card gets used (Intel HD) then the screen goes into power saving mode. However when I force the discrete graphics, then this doesn't happen. As Mac OS X switches seamlessly between the two depending on what applications are running, it might seem like a random occurrence. Just disable automatic graphics switching in the Energy Saver settings or use a tool like gfxCardStatus. I haven't had an issue in OS X since. On windows thats a whole different story...

I can't say much about RGB, but I also have issues with DisplayPort and my biggest problem is the monitor randomly turning off.
Problems I have come across:
1. When I tried to connect my monitor for the first time via DisplayPort, the screen showed nothing. I couldn't make it work until I used HDMI ... after then switching to DP 1.2, I also got a signal via DP.
2. The maximum resolution ingame (BF 4) was 1600x1200 via DP, while HDMI gave me normal 1080p Full HD. Only after switching to Full HD via HDMI, this option was available via DP, too.
3. I cannot have both, HDMI and DP, plugged in at the same time because DP kind of claims priority. If I use DP as source, there are no real problems (aside from the monitor turning off). But when I switch to HDMI, I can only see my desktop while all the windows aren't showing up - like they are still displayed via DP.
Right now I am using HDMI because I'm not really content with DP after all that happened. But every now and then the monitor turns off and doesn't come back. This happens with HDMI and DP aswell and is a major nuisance.
I have no idea what I could do now and whether this is caused by the monitor itself, my graphics card or power supply ...
My setup: Intel i5-4570, AMD Radeon R9 280X, Windows 8.1 64-bit
P.S.: A strange thing I noticed is that the monitor is also waking up on its own after shutting down the PC. Periodically it is turning on in the night just to say that there is no connection and that it will be going to sleep mode in 5 minutes. This monitor is a true mystery to me.

I've posted here before.
I've had 3 U2414H's for a month or two now. They were connected via DisplayPort to my HD7970 GPU and daisy-chained together and they were working. The original setting up was painful to say the least, there might have been a bit of luck involved too.
Yesterday I rebooted my PC and they stopped working!?
Now my PC has started seeing them as HDTV's and daisy-chaining is NOT WORKING! (yes I am yelling!).
I can only get one monitor to work in DP1.1a mode.
If I have a second monitor daisy-chained to the first and change monitor #1 to DP1.2, #1 monitor goes blank and it goes to sleep. Powering off, or unplugging the supplied 1.2 cable does not reinitialize the monitor.
I've tried two versions of AMD Catalyst Software (13.12 and the latest 14.4) which has not worked.
Have tried resetting monitors back to factory defaults, etc and all that mumbo jumbo - still don't work.
I've tried various things, restarting PC after each step etc - nothing.
Ringing Dell tomorrow to return these, THEY DON"T WORK as advertised and more importantly I have work to get on with, rather than about with these things all day.

I got a dual monitor set up with 2 Dell U2414H monitors. I use a HP EliteBook 9470m laptop with Win 7 64bit. The above observations are right on. I have use hundreds of monitors and never once had the smallest of issues. These U2414H monitors are a total disaster. I cannot make them display anything using the Display port or the DVI inputs. Using the supplied DP cable I cannot even see that the monitor exists. At least with the DVI cable I can see it but still does NOT display anything. Black. It is amazing that Dell would put a badly designed product out in the market. This monitor series simply does NOT work. Period. I am returning both monitors tomorrow and will go buy more traditional monitors with good old trusty VGA and DVI ports. This has been an enormous waste of my time.

Does this (registry setting for enabling full RGB mode) also apply to ATI/AMD cards? I have a notebook which does not allow me to have full control of installing oem display drivers causing me to not have access to teh Catalyst console to adjust the limited/full RGB setting.
I also changed the overscan in the registry to have 1920x1080 full screen on my u2414h monitor. If I'm able to set full RGB mode on my notebooks GPU also I would be very happy!

Same problems. You can try this but forcing the EDID did not change my monitor misbehavior (although the screen output looks better).
