U2520D, M3B104 firmware, checksum error

Hello,

I used the video output through USB Type-C without the problem with MacBook/iPad from last December. But a few days ago video output using USB Type-C cable stopped working (USB Type-C charging,USB Type-C hub, HDMI, and DP still works fine). It seems the only thing I did before the signal stopped outputting it was trying to connect iPad Pro using USB Type-C (with installed new iPadOS 15).

I tested two different cables with video output support and MacBook/iPad as a video signal source, tried different solutions suggested in different topics (power off monitor, re-enter USB cable, reset monitor settings and, etc.), and nothing help.

The last possible chance to start USB Type-C video output work again, in my opinion, was to update the firmware but I can't update the firmware on the monitor from M3B101 to M3B104. Update always fails with checksum error on Windows. In macOS update app says that "update were successful", but after turn off/on monitor firmware version still left M3B101. Maybe the M3B104 update (it is a fresh update from 23 Sep 2021) file for U2520D has some issues in it? Maybe I miss something? Thanks in advance.

Try these steps and post the results =

* Turn the U2520D off
* Disconnect every cable from the U2520D (including the power cable)
* Press and hold the U2520D power button for 8 seconds
* Reconnect the power cable to the U2520D

* Turn the U2520D on and connect the USB Type-C cable from it to the MacBook
* If you now have a video signal, on the MacBook, run the macOS M3B104 firmware update
* When done, open the U2520D Menu- Others and check the Firmware version

I also can't update monitor firmware to the new one using MacOS firmware update utility. Firmware still at old version after the update.

Still have no video signal after trying these steps a few times.

When I run the macOS M3B104 firmware update after a few minutes the update utility says that all was successful, monitor restarts and it looks like all need to be fine, but in Monitor menu remains M3B101 version.
It looks like here a few new topics from other people with other monitors that also can't update the firmware:

Hi I got the same problem with the M3B104 update. I am also on macOS M1 and update app says also that "update were successful" (with just an information message "PLUG_INFO_2"). But the firmware version still left M3B101... I tried on 2 different U2520D screens and the problem is always the same. I also tried to update on another computer on Windows 10 but it failed with an error.

Have you find a solution for that ?

Thanks

No, nothing changed. I still have no solution.

If another monitor is available, attach it to the PC and extract these log files =

Windows M3B104 ISP log: C:\dell\firmware\U2520D\U2520D_ISPLog.txt
Mac M3B104 ISP log: \Documents\U2520D_ISPLog.txt

Then contact DELL-Cares via a private message and send them the log files.

Hi there, I have the same firmware update problem with my U2520D. It just failed with firmware checksum error. However, I have no problem in using the monitor with my iPad Pro 12.9' 2021, Win 10 Laptop, MacBook Pro etc) via USB-C cable. I just posted to the forum before I found yours.

At any time prior to this issue, did any of you connect the U2520D to a Lenovo laptop USB Type-C port?

No I never connect my screen to a Lenovo Laptop.

I tried with a macbook air M1 (macOS BigSur 11.6) and a huawei matebook 13 (windows 10).

No, I was not connected U2520D to any Windows laptop (including the Lenovo). Always used type-c video output only with Macbook Air M1 and iPad.

Me neither. Only a MacBook Pro.

I only use the following devices' USB Type-C port to connect to U2520D.

- iPad Pro 12.9' 2021

- iPad Pro 11' 2021

- MacBook Pro 15'

- Dell Latitude 7290 (Win10)

All are working normally with the firmware M3B103. My problem is with the M3B104 firmware update. It can't be flashed to U2520D. The firmware update process always ends with checksum error.

The U2520D macOS M3B104 firmware update was created to allow for the usage of DDM for macOS. That was its only function. If you are not wanting to use DDM for macOS, then you do not need the macOS M3B104 firmware.

If you want to use DDM for macOS and you cannot install U2520D macOS M3B104 firmware update, then all you can do is ask the DELL-Cares agent to setup a "used/refurbished" U2520D exchange. The "used/refurbished" U2520D will have the latest firmware installed on it.
