U2713HM (Digital) monitor limited to 1920x1200 resolution, using dual link DVI cable on new ThinkPad X1 Carbon
I connected my new Dell U2713HM monitor to my new ThinkPad X1 Carbon using a dual link DVI cable, and am not able to obtain full resolution---the settings limit me to 1920x1200 resolution. I've ensured all drivers are up-to-date. Any ideas?

The U2713HM does not "choose" the resolution. The U2713HM using the DVI-D cable that shipped in the U2713HM box must be connected to a laptop DVI-D port that is transmitting a 2560x1440 signal. What is confusing to me, is that the ThinkPad X1 Carbon specifications do not list a DVI port?

So how are you connecting a DVI-D cable to the ThinkPad X1 Carbon?
