U2723QE, HDR whitepoint
Dear Dell community,
First thing I want to ask is the following:
I've tested four samples of the U2723QE:
- two with production date Nov 2021 with Rev A00, M2T101
- two with production date Jan 2022 with Rev A01, M2T101
When HDR (e.g. "DisplayHDR 400") is enabled I see that the whitepoint in Forza Horizon 5 of the two samples from Nov 2021 (Rev A00) is 7500 (then the logo will clip completely), while the whitepoint of the two samples from Jan 2022 (Rev A01) is 500. I'm using the same PC, the same DisplayPort cable and exactly the same settings for both the PC as the monitor. So the only difference is really the monitor. So why has Dell changed HDR whitepoint with Rev A01?
The second thing is that I've discovered a bug with all the four samples (they all using the same firmware M2T101):
Given Smart HDR is set in OSD to e.g. "DisplayHDR 400", when setting the monitor in either OSD or Display Manager to another mode other than "Standard", so for example "sRGB" or "Custom", this mode will not be saved when enabling HDR in Windows (via toggle in Windows settings via Display > Use HDR or shortkey Windows key + Alt + B) and than disabling HDR. So if HDR in Windows is disabled again the monitor will always revert to "Standard" (instead of the set "sRGB" or "Custom"). Please, can Dell fix this?

Most likely the new revision fixes a hardware flaw or has minor improvement, unlikely anyone except Dell engineers has any information on that.
Regarding the white point setting in the game it's better to ask the game developer or support team, the white point range and default value is defined in the source code of the game.
The following topic explains why you may not want to use HDR on U2723QE:

The change in HDR white point is confirmed by Dell, so it has nothing to do with the source code of the game:
"The HDR white point is a change by our product engineering team as per the market needs. Unfortunately, we can't do anything about that."
Dell applied heavy tone mapping in HDR for Rev A00, therefore there are very subtile more details in the highlights.
