U3011, grey smudge
A grey smudge/streak recently appeared on my U3011. Unfortunately for me, this was purchased 3.5 years ago and thus is out of warranty. Does anyone know if this a repairable defect? Considering how much these things cost, if my only option is to ignore it or buy a new monitor, it's unlikely I'll be buying from Dell again. Here's the pic from one of the self test screens. Against light blue (sky, for example), it's unfortunately very noticeable. I tried contacted Dell support, and the guy I was talking to was convinced it was dead pixels even though it doesn't show with a bright white background. Any assistance would be appreciated. Thanks.

That is the yogore/mura defect. All we would do is exchange it while under the purchased warranty period.
Dark spots or patches may occasionally appear on some LCD panels. This clouding phenomenon is recognized in the industry as yogore or mura. A Japanese term for "unevenness." This term is used to describe a low contrast, irregular pattern or region that causes uneven screen uniformity under certain conditions. Mura is a result of the deterioration of the liquid crystal (LC) alignment layer; most commonly caused by long term operation under high ambient temperatures. It is an industry wide phenomenon and mura is not repairable. Mura has been around since the introduction of LCD technology. LCD screens are getting bigger, touch monitors typically run 24/7, and we are enjoying more content now in low light conditions. All these factors add to the possibility of mura affecting displays. Generally, the appearance of mura can be minimized by the following methods:
* Lower the backlight brightness
* Use a screen saver
* Reduce the ambient temperature around the unit
