U3818DW, USB-C, power source, reconnection loop

Hi,

When laptop is connected via usb-c as the only power source under even moderate load monitor starts to disconnect and connect in an infinite loop. With power adapter connected it's not occurring. I've got two laptops: dell Precision 3530 130W and thinkpad x1 extreme 135W and two systems on both: windows and linux. In every configuration of laptop and OS it happens. With linux is more stable, much higher load is needed.

Firmware: M3B106

Should it behave like that? I understand that USB-C gives only 100W but still I would expect it to just drain a battery not turn off and on again and again.

Your testing confirms that the power draw from the Laptops via USB Type-C is exceeding what the U3818DW USB Type-C can push. See the online U3818DW Monitor Troubleshooting Guide, USB Type-C Charging.
"The USB Type-C Power Distribution for U3818DW is up to 95W (60W for Dell systems)."

You will have to connect the external AC power adapters to the Laptops.
