UP2414Q, Mac Pro (Late 2013)
I am using two Dell Ultra Sharp HD Monitors UP2414Q with my Mac Pro (late 2013) single processor quad core running el cap 10.11.1 with AMD vFirePro D300. The have been working seamlessly with Yosemite since plug and play install in April. Last week the Pro began getting hung up upon boot up after 1/3 of the progress bar filled under the apple logo. The next thing seen was the generic arrow in the Right upper corner of the L monitor. The R monitor never initialized. They are connected via thunderbolt (mini Display Port) to display port. The only thing that will rescue is a hard reset with power button. I can also make it work by using HDMI out on Pro to HDMI in on Display. No crash then. However, I can only use one Display. I have tried Thunderbolt cable to mini display port input on Monitor, I have tried mini display to HDMI on monitor. Any of these hangs the boot up. Can anyone suggest a diagnostic step or possible fix? Thanks.

No idea about the Mac Pro boot issue. We do not test Apple products for boot issues? You would be better suited to post on the Apple Discussions Forum and see if they can offer some insight or troubleshooting steps.

Chris, when I spoke to Dell sales prior to purchase they were quite confident and proud of the Mac compatibility with this monitor. It is also listed by apple as compatible. That is why I purchased it. I did post it on the Mac Pro forum. In fact the Mac runs with other monitors and the monitor works with a non mac computer. It is a compatibility issue of course. I am looking for technical advice on how to re -establish the compatibility I was sold.
Because of the lack of a service Tag on the monitor I cannot contact technical service. These are expensive units that should have durability in function beyond 6 months and a commitment to service.
If anyone in the community has been able to fix this, please let me know.

"when I spoke to Dell sales prior to purchase they were quite confident and proud of the Mac compatibility with this monitor."
I can only go by the User's Guide which does not mention Apple but mentions Windows 72 times. The only listing I see is MAC for Gamma. Examples =
"It is also listed by apple as compatible."
Link to Apple stating this?
You might try doing a hard reset of the UP2414Q's and then re-test.
* Turn the computer and monitors off
* Disconnect all cables from the monitor including the power cable
* Press the monitor power button in for 10 seconds
* Reconnect all cabling
* Power on and re-test

Can you go back to Yosemite and replicate the issue?

I find it interesting that they spell out two of our monitors at 30Hz.
With OS X Mavericks v10.9.3 and later, the following DisplayPort displays are supported using single-stream transport at 30Hz:
Sharp PN-K321
ASUS PQ321Q
Dell UP2414Q
Dell UP3214Q
Panasonic TC-L65WT600
But then when 60Hz is discussed, they use, "most single-stream 4K (3840x2160) displays are supported at 60Hz".
Anyway, try the reset instructions. You could also set the monitors to DP 1.2 Disabled (30Hz) and see if the hang on boot still happens. You mentioned, "They have been working seamlessly with Yosemite since plug and play install in April.". Did the issue start when you updated to El Capitan?

I'm not sure I did the Hard reset correctly. Do you plug in the power cord and then hold down the power button or hold the power button down while power is disconnected. Yosemite reload didn't matter.
One more point...If I have the monitors powered off when it is booting up then turn them on after 30 seconds or so the screens work fine???

Hold the power button down while power is disconnected. That sounds like a disconnect between the laptop video card and the monitors. The monitors wait for the handshake from the computer before they engage, not the other way around.
