UP2720Q, issues with Calibration and Low Gamma
Hello,
I recently acquired a Dell UP2720Q display intended for photo and video editing tasks. However, I'm currently facing a couple of issues with it that make me question whether I should return this monitor and opt for a different brand. There is no documentation on how to use the calibration option, nor how to use the CAL1 and CAL2 presets?
The first issue I encountered is related to calibration. I have tried calibrating the display through the On-Screen Display (OSD) menu, but I am seeking more precise control. To accomplish this, I attempted to install the "DellCalibrationAssistant_Windows_A00_1408_1.0.5.4" software, but I encountered an error stating 'Failed to execute script DellCalibrationAssistant', preventing the installation.
I downloaded and installed "Dell_Color_Management_2.1.0.002". However, I was unable to use this software due to an 'unsupported display' error, despite connecting via DisplayPort and having an USB cable attached to both the computer and monitor. I tried different USB ports on the monitor without any success. Additionally, I have installed "DELL_UP2720Q-MONITOR_A00-00_DRVR_1FN7" and "ddmsetup", but the issue persists. It appears that I'm unable to calibrate the monitor according to my preferences.
The second problem lies with the monitor's Gamma. I've observed that it is significantly low, standing at 1.3, regardless of the preset selected. I've verified this using the Gamma Calibration page on the Lagom LCD monitor test page and the Eizo Monitor Test. Furthermore, upon performing a Black Level Test, I noticed that the blacks appear elevated, making all patches seem too bright. But, I can see all patches on the White and Black Level Screen Monitor TV Test Pattern (https://youtu.be/VJDVvYC0-aU)
Given these circumstances, I am seeking advice on whether this is a display-specific issue or if there might be something I'm overlooking in the setup or calibration process. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
I work on a Windows 11 Pro system with RTX 4080 and i7-13700K

Oh, forgot to mention:
In the Nvidia Control Panel, I made the following adjustments to bypass any color changes by the OS/GPU:
Under "Adjust Desktop Color Settings," I selected "Override to Reference Mode."

Update: I've made some progress with my setup. I've successfully connected my computer to the monitor using a USB Type-C to A cable, plugged into the Thunderbolt™ 3 Upstream Port. The Dell Color Management application is now loading.
However, I'm still encountering a few challenges. I'm unable to locate or select the calibration parameters for CAL1 and CAL2 within the software. Where can I find these?
Additionally, after calibrating Preset 2 (BT. Rec.709) yesterday, I noticed a discrepancy with the gamma target. Despite the software indicating that the gamma target should be BT.1886 (which corresponds to a gamma value range of 2.2-2.4), my display seems to be operating at a significantly lower gamma of 1.3. This is the same issue I initially reported in my first post.
Lastly, I'm not able to find or view any validation data post-calibration, which is quite puzzling. If anyone has any suggestions or insights to address these issues, I would greatly appreciate your input.
I got this message. he file DELL UP2720Q\DellCalibrationAssistant_1.0.8.1_Windows.exe is infected with Gen:Variant.Lazy.338345. I don't know what this software is for.
